The ans is simple, if suppose a train runs between Delhi and kolkata on a daily basis, the first train leaves on Monday afternoon or evening, this train will reach Kolkata by wednesday morning or afternoon only and the same train set, if suppose leaves kolkata by wednesday night, it will reach Delhi only by friday evening. So that means, if the railway have to operate this train from delhi to kolkata on daily basis then, it should have at least 4 sets of rakes so that it can operate from delhi from Tuesday till friday, I hope you have understood now. A daily train like kerala express from delhi to trivandrum has at least 6 set of rakes. It all depends upon the distance and the frequency of operation of a particular train that determines the no of rakes that train should have.

Another rule is, the process of shunting is never done beyond starter signal without any special permission. I will never forget the three or four wheel direct drive diesel shunting locomotive which are now out of service....

Nice video....sir...JB koi train station se banke chalti hai toh us couch ko pichhe se push karte huye station mein couch ko laya jata hai.. fir aage Uske engine lagake station se rawana Kiya jata hai.. mera question ye hai ki Shunting engine Ka use kyun Kiya Jaye jbki us couch ko toh main engine BHI la sakti thi?????
