I too picked up the bass late in life. A friend her me play guitar and said, “Why don’t you try the bass? It’s got two fewer strings!” But I’ve dug the sound and the vibe. Learning blues bass primarily. First bass was an Ibanez 200 that’s my jam bass and also my autograph bass (so far Gerry McAvoy (Rory Gallagher, Band of Friends) and Jesske Hume (The Felice Brothers) have signed it. Last year I got a Thunderbird. Man! Two very different basses. I love watching Julia Hofer’s vids too

Sean - I think your backpack just got a little teenie bit heavier -🤣 I loved to lay down some lead riffs on my bass when I played it for our group. at first, I got some grimaces, however, I finally won people over, or at least I think I did, because it sounds so smooth and "different" when it comes from the bass guitar. Of course, when you miss playing the lead guitar and have to play the bass, it's a little compromise 🤪🤔

@shugemery when I use to play out a lot I always had 2 or 3 set up and ready to go. Other thing for me was really the different inspirations. Beautiful bass Shug! Congratulations! I'm a banjo player of about 20 years that has played upright bass for about 15 years and recently got in to electric bass. Now there are 4 of them. They multiply like rabbits don't they? Just bought a Fender Jazz bass Saturday night. Like you, I'm up all night playing. Learning is the best part.
@shugemery

They do multiply. Each one is so different in its own way. I am going to try and stop at 3 basses. But....I do want a Fender Jazz someday. Enjoy yours. What model did you get?
@jbcardin
@jbcardin Жыл бұрын
@@shugemery It's the Player Limited Edition Jazz. Green Burst color. I have a Fender Broad Bass and an Ibanez that plays extremely well for a cheaper bass. I was up all last night working in Lukas Miller "Find Yourself". He's Willie Nelsons son. Pretty cool bass playing in that song.

Sire's are nice. I have their tele-style guitar. One thing: String through the body but I saw the ball ends of the strings just through the bridge. Shouldn't go through the body first, then the bridge?

Came on the bridge. Through the body now. Except the G string in through the bridge to give it a wee slack. Still experimenting. Cool to hear from you as you did so much great early work in hammocks. Many of your ideas and posts are still on HF. Thanks for all that!

I was thinking you had the right hat on for a bass unboxing. I like your new bass, a bit a of a crisp sound to it. Nice color too. Is the Fender the heaviest? Always drives me nuts when the body is so light makes it off balance. Good deal, whoo buddy!
@shugemery

The Sterling Musicman is the heaviest. Then maybe the Fender by a wee bit. Then the new one. Well balanced though.

btw, something I really need to warn you about with Sweetwater, the 55 point inspection is misleading - that's for damage and to make sure everything turns on when it should etc etc. It doesn't mean setup, (intonation, neck / truss adjustment, bridge setup) that all costs a considerable chuck more (I think around 200 dollars) I mention this because I spent a grand of an LTD EC-1000 and a Fender MIM strat from them, and neither were playable at all out of the box. The Floyd Rose on the EC-1000 was raised about a half above the body on the Bass (EAD) side and about where it should have been on the treble side (gbe) I'm honestly shocked that neither the blades on the Floyd Rose or the pegs were damaged. (Let me say this I love sweetwater and have spent about 10k there in recent years so I'm not bagging on them) just be aware and set expectations accordingly
@shugemery

I misspoke. I read the card and saw that. Been learning to do my own set-up. Got a few string and neck doo-dads. Kinda fun. Setting intonation I learned on my mandolin so I find it easy on the bass. String action is fun to play with. So much new to do.
@eakinj
@eakinj Жыл бұрын
@@shugemery I mostly do my own as well, all except doing intonation on the Floyd Rose (Floating bridges) they are a pain. so all my FR guitars are E standard, everything else LP,'s strats I can use a variety of strings and tunings (C standard anyone?) and re-intonating isn't a big deal. It's just fun to fiddle on them too. Truss rod adjustments still scare me though.
