As always, I'm in tears. This man's voice is miraculous. A little history. In 1967, immediately prior to the 6 Days War, this was the single most popular song played on Israeli radio. It expresses the beauty and magic of the old City of Jerusalem, a city banned to Jews in spite of UN mandates since 1948. As May, 1967 drew to a close, war in the Middle East became imminent, along with the likelihood of the complete destruction of the State of Israel. Along with the slaughter of every man, woman, and child, and no nation willing to take in any survivors. Every piece of public land, every park in Israel was consecrated to be used as Jewish cemeteries. Hitler killed 6 million, the arab world was on the brink of killing another 3 million. And THIS SONG was on everyone's lips. It is considered by some to be Israel's second national anthem. Well the war came. David ben Gurion, first Prime Minister of Israel once said that any Israeli who does not believe in miracles is not a realist. The war came, and was over in 6 days. Jerusalem was reunited, and in days, this song was sung at the Western Wall. True stories. So yes, I'm still in tears.

Since 7 October birthdays have gone, Advent, Christmas, the New Year, Lent and Valentines Day, Mothers Day and Easter looms and still they are not with their families, friends and us. Yes, Us because they are us. The events and celebrations that punctuate the life of my family, friends and I are tainted with an overwhelming sadness. I wish, pray and think everyday for the release of those captured hostages. I can only hope against hope really that the light of the World - however thin shines on them in their Darkness. Those who perpetrated those heinous acts and support their terror destroyed and are destroying so much - our lives will never be the same. Look what they do. We are just one family - there are millions and millions of us. What they did that day knocked my lifelong faith in humanity sideways, turned it upside down and inside out and that´s the truth of it. I just pray and hope for the freedom of those held hostage and for the nation of Israel. For me these recent events demonstrate how vital it is for Jewish peoples to have a safe place on this earth - a home. 🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯

It was 1993 when I have heard this song for the very first time in my life at the end of "Schindler's List". I got hit to my heart right away. I am a Christian from Germany and I am so sorry for all the sorrow and grief your people have to face especially since Oct 7. I never thought something like this would ever be possible again. I will never forget all these pictures I have seen. I am far away and I am not involved in any of these conflicts nore did I loose any of my friends or family members but I do feel so much pain and sadness, being speechless that it is impossible to nearly get what the Israelis and Jews have to go through. No idea if they can ever heal from this but crossing fingers for this. I love your voice and how you perform this song. It goes straight to the heart and I hope it will be able to give hope to all people. God save Israel, solidarity with Israel and NEVER AGAIN IS NOW.

Dear Auguste, You write "I feel so connected to Judaism" etc. etc. One never knows the root of one's neshomo-soul. Maybe. Just maybe? Do keep thinking about The One Above - and you will surely connect with Him. "Have we not AL, ONE Father?!" Believe me, Auguste when you truly and sincerely love Him, Hashem will surely return that love to you! Guaranteed...

Auguste Angers, I understand exactly how you feel - that is why I converted to Judaism 19 years ago and it was one of the best decisions of my life. If there is a synagogue near you, you may wish to contact them to see if they offer any programs for conversion to Judaism. Another option you may wish to consider if there isn't a synagogue nearby is an online conversion course such as this one: converttojudaism.online/ The face-to-face (not online) conversion process typically takes about 1 year and you may face some challenging questions from the rabbi(s) involved in the process, but the joy of formally adopting the Jewish faith that is within your heart is worth all of the effort. Shalom and good luck!

One of my favourite songs. When I hear it, it makes me think how things would have been if my English mother’s family hadn’t left their Jewish roots behind. They converted, married out, tried to deny the link but my mother, she always had questions, always was drawn to certain songs, words, foods, she accepted the hidden part of her heritage, she wanted to visit Israel, I think she might have even found her way back “home” if we hadn’t lost her in 2017. She certainly gave me a love of the music, food, and history, even though I am a Hindu! 🤣❤️

JERUSALEM OF GOLD The mountain air is clear as wine And the scent of pines Is carried on the breeze of twilight With the sound of bells. And in the slumber of tree and stone Captive in her dream The city that sits solitary And in its midst is a wall. Chorus: Jerusalem of gold And of copper, and of light Behold I am a violin for all your songs. x2 How the cisterns have dried The market-place is empty And no one frequents the Temple Mount In the Old City. And in the caves in the mountain Winds are howling And no one descends to the Dead Sea By way of Jericho. Chorus: But as I come to sing to you today, And to adorn crowns to you (i.e. to tell your praise) I am the smallest of the youngest of your children (i.e. the least worthy of doing so) And of the last poet (i.e. of all the poets born). For your name scorches the lips Like the kiss of a seraph If I forget thee, Jerusalem, Which is all gold... Chorus: We have returned to the cisterns To the market and to the market-place A ram's horn calls out on the Temple Mount In the Old City. And in the caves in the mountain Thousands of suns shine - We will once again descend to the Dead Sea By way of Jericho!

En ces temps si troublés où la violence fait rage, prions pour la paix de Jérusalem. Que Dieu continue de protéger et bénir son peuple d’Israel. En union de prière avec vous tous, de la part d’une catholique de Paris.
