Great review, as always Tom! Like you, I still prefer the sound of the first version of the Mv7. I want to leave a warning for those who, like me, have the first version of the Mv7: the last time I tried to update the Shure Plus MOTIV, I received a message saying that they will stop updating the software and are encouraging people to use the new Shure Motiv Mix. It turns out that when using the Motiv Mix with the first version of the Mv7, it does not enable any of the features such as compressor, limiter, among others. Only if you have the new Mv7 Plus. Of course I will continue using the Plus Motiv. Shure should support it for a while longer, after all, it has not even been 5 years since the launch of the first Mv7. Greetings, Tom!

I’ve been having an issue where I have the Mv7 and Mv7+ in the same room for live streaming with friends and my wife at the same set up, the MV7 is what I use, and it is set to “auto level near” which is great because it doesn’t pick up my guest too much. But the MV7+ that my guest is using has both near and far auto-leveling in one feature, so when my friend isn’t speaking it boosts the gain way up to hear me speaking into my mic 3 ft away out of its cardioid direction and creates a huge echo effect like I’m in a well. Really wish they’d have left the separate options available as well as the combined one.

I bought the MV7+ and it was pretty good for its price. However, I returned it after I found that it was picking up other background noise, and it essentially had to be in the video frame. Is there anything I might have missed? Again, great video!
@tombuckАй бұрын
There are definitely a lot of differences between voices, so you might need some different settings than I'm using. The Motiv app is pretty great though, so it should be able to help! If things are sounding muddy, pushing the mic tone more towards the "bright" setting is the first thing I'd recommend. If you turn off auto gain it'll then give you access to a compressor which can help to brighten things up too, but I'd keep that as a last resort since auto gain is quite nice to have.

Yeah, that should work just fine!

Question on the Podmic USB: Have you, or anyone here, had it randomly reset? I went through 3 of them with that issue and one of my actors is having it with his.

I haven't had the problem myself, but I'll be interested to see if anyone else has.

So if you had to choose a Travel USB C Mic, would you choose the MV7+ or Podmic USB?
@tombuck5 ай бұрын
Honestly, the one I DO travel with is the Sennheiser Profile because it's so compact and I love the physical controls.

I have a question. I have Shure Mv7 from 2021. should I get a Motu M2 or Motu M4 and go XLR? USB don't give me that quality. will an interface provide me quality?
@EmDzei5 ай бұрын
What kind of background noise was there in this microphone you tested? How much gain did it need? I'm asking this because I bought a Sennheiser Profile and it had really loud background noise and it needs maximum gain to pick up sound at all. I immediately returned it. I wonder a little why you recommend it.
@tombuck5 ай бұрын
I love the Profile! The important thing to remember is that your computer's input gain needs to be set properly. It's usually buried in the sound settings, and if it's too low, then it won't matter if a mic's gain is maxed out. As for background noise, the Profile is a condenser and the MV7 is dynamic, so in general a dynamic mic will pick up less noise.

I just purchased the Shure MV7+. Does it bring much value to use the Shure RK345 Black Foam Replacement Windscreen for SM7A and SM7B Microphones instead of the one that comes with the MV7+? I read a lot that people replaced the windscreen for the MV7 but could not find much information with the newer MV7+.
@tombuck3 ай бұрын
I talk about windscreens about 2:44 here, but yes it definitely helps. The new windscreen that comes with the plus is much better though, so you might not need to change it.
@hirnspaltsaa59023 ай бұрын
@@tombuck thank you! I saw it but wasn’t sure if a change really makes a difference and I don’t have the sm7b windscreen to test.

Can you connect this mic on 2 computers 1 via USB and 2 via XLR? Do I need to use my Cloudlifter or Dynamite on one of these connections? Thanks
@tombuck2 ай бұрын
Yes, it can run simultaneously which is awesome. Whether or not you need a booster with XLR depends on your interface. If you've got more than 70dB of clean gain, then you should be fine. If you've got less than that, then a booster will help. 👍

Which one would you recommend for using it with usb? It the MV7 Plus worth the extra money over the original MV7? Like the audio quality itself, im leaning to the Plus since of the software options.
@tombuck3 ай бұрын
If you're mainly using it through USB, yes I think the new one is a very worthwhile update. The USB C port and physical changes to the mic along with different software features and control make it much better for USB.
@JasonSuffers3 ай бұрын
@@tombuck Thanks, im also considering the Rode NT USB+ after watching your video, its cheaper and the sound quality was great.

How do you avoid mouth noises like lip smacks, lip clicks, and swallowing sounds when speaking?
@tombuck5 ай бұрын
A lot of it really comes down to practice and mic technique. Good windscreens and pop filters can help too, along with adding de-clickers and de-essers with software.

Anyone know how long the included cable is? Can't find it on the website. And is it C to C or C to A?

It’s a 6’ (2 meter) c to c cable 👍

So can I just get the new wind screen for my MV7?
@tombuck5 ай бұрын
Yep!
@yourpcmd26 күн бұрын
Here's the problem with the Shure MV7+ that no one talks about. For the lights to work, you must use the USB connection. For those that want XLR only, get the $100 cheaper Shure MV7X, especially if you're just going to use an audio interface like the Scarlett Solo or 2i2. Yes, I know you can use the XLR and the USB at the same time, but that negates the purpose of an audio interface which is better quality using XLR over USB.

Hello, im new with the world of sound, if i want to buy mv7+, what interface should i get? I have scarlett solo gen 4. Is it enough?
@tombuckАй бұрын
The Gen 4 Scarletts are fantastic and should have plenty of gain to run the MV7+ 👍
