Thank you for sharing your experience. I am looking for a new pair of IEMs. I wonder if you have any experience with Sony IER-M9 and how would you compare them with the 846s. They also seem to be designed for musicians as a monitoring device and it appears the developers had lots of input from sound engineers and artists whilst developing them from scratch. And I am pretty sure, Shure went through the same process given their presence and huge R&D budget. Thanks for your time. 🙂
@GuillaumeLortie Жыл бұрын
Hi 👋 Never worked with the IER-M9. Looking at Sony website, they are in fact targeted to musiciens. Expect a lot of dynamic and low end handling from them. I’m gonna guess here you want them for mastered music listening. They will give you exactly how the song sounds. If you have a badly mixed songs, it will give it to you. If you have good sources, it will also reproduce them well. Good luck!

i have one 846 and three 215s. the 846 is more bulbous and doesn't seat in my right ear very well. i use it when i'm sitting down to really just listen to my music library. the 215 is slimmer and more lightweight (less drivers) and is good for daily driving when sound quality doesn't matter as much. they still sound great. they just don't have that extra dimension. i keep one 215 at church for the electronic drums, i keep one on my personal electronic drum set, and one that i plug into different devices. i have three bt2s, but i keep two charged for rotation and keep a pair of fostex tm2 buds on the one in use. for the minimal form factor, the tm2 earbuds sound just as good as the 215 - but the tm2 bluetooth receivers suck. there's a hiss. i practically never use the tm2 receivers

SE846 w/TW attachments vs Ikko OH7 using a FiiO BTR5 as an amp for the headphones and a way to transmit audio from a device, wirelessly via Bluetooth to the BTR5 and into the in-ears from there. So, if I’ve had some personal preference issues with Shure in the past, especially when I tried moving up to the 535’s w/the BT2 adapter that was terrible. I ended up not holding onto them and got a pair of Sennheiser IE 500 Pro’s which I loved until someone in my house didn’t know any better and threw em the f out when taking out trash (I had em wrapped to be sent in because the left ear bud wasn’t really playing anything anymore and I was sure to troubleshoot every other way. So, now that I’ve been looking for in ears again for a while I came across the OH7’s by Ikko and the whole design of it and the craftsmanship on the outside of the brass cavity is just remarkable. Some background on me, I do play the drums, but I’m still building up my muscle and muscle stamina. Drumming is basically my physical therapy because of a connective tissue disorder I have, so I exercise as much as possible whilst sitting to do everything possible to gain core strength. However, after having my 500’s lost to someone in my house, I’ve only had cans to put on my ears. Don’t get me wrong, I love the deals I found on all of them and how great they all work; I have one pair of HD1-AE, 1 Momentum 2.0, and a pair of PXC 550-ii. As you notice they’re all around/over ear type. I’ve learned I can’t do on ear over the years, but I can also do in ear buds as long as they fit well and I really intend for them to be used whilst drumming to take weight off my head and neck as well as to get a better understanding of all the musical notes I’m listening (like, more clarity), so then I can try to be as precise as possible when learning songs. So, main question here, if I had issues with multiple drivers on a Shure in ear previously, but then just about fell in love with those ie-500 Pro Sennies with a single 7mm single, dynamic driver, should I try Shure again if I found a deal for a few hundred bucks off or should I skip past the good old traditional names in the game and very possibly end up with the Ikko OH7. I also checked out the ie-900, but I think sennheiser made it look nicer and raised the price. It still uses the 7mm dynamic single and unlike Ikko, they sadly don’t use the full metal cavity like Ikko does to really make you feel some of those sub bass hitting notes. I feel like I’m leaning towards the OH7’s, but it’s seriously so hard to choose, but I do like at least some coloration to my music as well, not just a plain old flat, neutral line (also giving me super major pause on the ie 900’s, but also some pause towards the 846’s as well. From what I’ve read and heard, the Shure’s are much more of just an in ear *reference* monitor, the ie 900’s are a great pair of in ears but also next to no coloration of the music… Then there are the OH7’s which can be used like a reference in ear, but man can they apparently pack a giant punch as well. They supposedly, somehow let the sonic waves travel back into the grass cavity and then passes it into your ear canal (don’t quote me, not 100% positive but I believe it’s something alone those lines. Like, would you wear there’s just around? Wear them by the pool, doing dishes, meditating, jogging-exercise…etc. etc. Or, are these a reference only for you? Like to plug into an amp connected to your computer and then edit and/or create music? Thanks

I use the 846 for everything, listening to music when i work around the house, mixing stuff for clients, they do the job perfectly. keep in mind that my job is to mix live shows for performer and have the same IEM and make lot sound like they don’t have anything in there ears. we don’t use any kind of bluetooth and we don’t listen to mastered music. live performances are way more dynamic then a CD. i need something that can deliver that.

Hi man, Thank you very much for the video! I worked very hard and I saved a lot of money to get those earphones. I will use those earphones at flights, day to day and the major thing is competition. I am a professional athlete and my music is one of the most important things to me in the competitions. I have to have a good sound isolating earphones in order to disconnect from my surrounding and be focused. Would you recommend those earphones for this situation? There is a lot of noose during the competition as you can imagine...

Hi Rom ! yes, if you want great isolation, they are hard to beat and one of the best sounding you can buy. if you ever buy the 846 or any other Shure headphone. try out the Yellow isolation foam. those are the best to really intensive activities

@@hovavrom I’ve never try the Bose, i’m more in the Live musician performance gear over consumer stuff. isolation will be way higher on the Shure 846. i use them when i do wood working and I can’t even hear my power tools over them. the isolation is so good, you are basically waking like a deaf person if you have music playing
@AndriesTom3 жыл бұрын
I would definitely recommend these. If you love quality sound, the SE846 will satisfy you. They are also small enough to fit in your ear, I even sleep with them without problem. If the Shure tips do not provide enough isolation for you, get the Snug IEM custom fit. Comfy, noise isolating, only need one pair (at about 250 €, I'd say "thank God"...)

if you want to game with extremely good reproduction of the game sound. if you have audible references in the game you play it can make your ear stuff better. they are like 360hz monitors but for your ears.

Don't by Shure IEMs in 2022 even their $1000 846 gets beat by $320 moondrop blessing 2 if not by the $200 Kato. The 846 aren't bad, they are just terrible value but if you don't want chi fi and you have a lot of money then just get Sennheiser IE 600 instead for $700. Also Shure cables are fucking terrible. I have 215s and while I'm shure the cable will last (bad pun I know) it sucks. It's a clear cable that turned green in a year and it's stiff as all hell. I would replace the cable if I didn't hate the sound of the IEM.
@GuillaumeLortie2 жыл бұрын
Hi 👋 I just look at Moodrop and I don’t believe this is made for musicians. the fact that the cables are not swivel around the ear buds will eventually make it break at the connector. Also looking the charts tells you it’s not a flat curved IEM and will color the sound. Shure 215 are a different beast then the 846, also 10 time less. P.S. the other company cables are also getting affected by body moisture and are affected by corrosion but you just can’t see it if it’s not a clear cable.

Hi Erik! as much as i understand that the 846 may not be the best sounding option today, the experience i was sone of my friends had with 64 for warranty and parts is still a NO GO for me personally. i can’t not afford to wait 2 weeks to get a replacement cables in case of an accident. I don't care about "almost obsolete" because service on these is not obsolete, nor is their sound, and you can still easily find them both new and used. At their price point and age, you're bound to find something better sounding. Also, I have the impression the IEM scene has grown exponentially, the offer is limitless and goes from 20 $ to well over 3K $. I'd like to use to use the 1200 Campfire Solaris, but also liked the sound of my 150 € KZ AST (12 BA)...
