Good for you. I'm a fan. I was so not bothered by the processing because the previous video showed the POTENTIAL. There are so many variables and situations. Many videos and comments I saw talked about how the dB would be a waste of money - they were talking to people who either already have a Shure SM7B - forgetting some of us do not. Many were also talking to podcasters. But if you're a musician like me and a vocalist, the options multiply. I so agree with you and thank you again.

What are some of your favorite mics for singing? We spend so much time here for podcasting/livestreaming options - it would be great to hear from vocalists as well. The SM7B has been used by vocalists a lot historically (Michael Jackson comes to mind), but we typically stick to dynamic mics for podcasting and I know there are some beautiful sounding condenser, tube and ribbon mics out there as well. Thank you for the video ! I have a Vocaster One and I'm debating between these two great microphones. I'm leaning towards the DB because of the CloudLifter, even though the Vocaster has 70 db of gain. The SM7DB could share the load of gain with the Vocaster and just maybe get a little bit cleaner audio outcome.

Excellent idea. We have Vocasters (one and two) and still use Cloudlifters. While the Focusrite preamps are capable of providing “enough gain” there is a difference in including the CL in the chain and lowering the needed Vocaster gain.

Thank you for making a second video without processing. I did pick up the Shure SM7DB into a Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 and I am still within the return window for the SM7DB and am contemplating doing so for the older SM7B given that the 4i4 has 70 DB of gain. This video helps. Curious, since you have experience with both, should I retain the SM7DB in your opinion?

In our experience, just because an interface has added gain to get the SM7B loud enough - it doesn’t mean that it won’t add some noise from those preamps being cranked up in the interface. We prefer either adding a Cloudlifter CL-1 to the SM7B chain or using the SM7DB (which has the Cloudlifter built-in, essentially) so you can have the needed clean gain before you adjust the interface levels. Came to this video from the other one. And i was debating getting the sm7db. But after this. I might stay with the b. I also run a dbx268 so i dont need the phantom power extra nor the built in cl. But maybe i will do it anyways. Also for anyone wanting to. Dont go the dbx268 way unless you have alot of space or a rack 😅 my dbx268 goes into a roland vt-4 then pc. Iv also noticed high noise from the vt-4 but that could be my cable mess 😅 overall good test. Would definitly love to see/hear if there even is a difference with running it with a normal cl instead of the built in one. But i doubt there will be much of a difference. Probably the same as now or mayne the same 😅

You're getting a great preamp for your SM7B with the dbx268s, so unless you wanted to streamline your setup, and didn't need the other processing the 268 provides - getting the SM7DB may not be necessary. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment here!

definitely the dbx268 is great i have the previous A version but still works great. i think my overall setup cost for the vt-4 268A and the sm7b hit me around $500 just around there. might be looking into the db just so i can run a 2nd mic since i do some times have friends over too where we do use mic's but given the close proximity the sm7 likes. il most likely look into it since i also do some beatboxing and other stuff. but honestly its definitely not anything i need. its more a want haha.

I prefer the SM7B with the Cloudlifter CL-1. However, if I didn't already have the SM7B - I would start with the SM7DB. Does that help you?

@@newpannam no, the sound is pretty much equal. I like one more than the other some days, and then change my mind - it's so close. I already had the SM7B and Cloudlifter set up, so it is what I keep.

hi , for wave xlr is it enough to run sm7b? now i only have sm7b and i have a plan to buy CL, i still confused too chose, which one better sell sm7b and upgrade to sm7db or buy more xlr cable and CL? i need the best voice

Since you already have the SM7B, and if the additional XLR cable is not an issue for you, then getting a CL-1 and cable with your SM7B would give you the same sound as an SM7DB. Both options are great and almost identical in our testing.
