This video was exactly what I was looking for. I'm being sent out tomorrow at San Fran Giant's Spring Training Stadium in Scottsdale. The mics are being provided by their normal supplier. I typically do not accept freelance jobs for other companies; however, their usual vendor asked if I'd make an exception, which I'm happy to do in order to maintain a friendly relationship. I do not own this system but needed to perform some advance work. I do own a multitude of Shure systems with the exception of the ULX-D. Primarily I'm a Sennheiser man but over the years I collected a unit or two of most Shure systems of various kind. This video is an excellent primer to get me running for tomorrow's event. Loved your concise training. Thanks for your hard work putting this together.

Scott, you’re my initial go-to guy for this kind of stuff. I point up-and-coming technicians to your site to learn more when they are grasping for knowledge. For more advanced training I send people to Boomer at RF Venue, though over the years you’re nearly at a level of wireless expertise as he is! Well, not truly at his level. Who is more knowledgeable than he for he has decades of experience you nor I will ever acquire; however, you're getting there. Please keep up the great work! You’ve helped many people like me over the past years.

Room size is also taken into consideration. Shure says the ULXD is intended for large spaces, such as large church sanctuaries and concert halls. The QLXD is intended for small to medium sized spaces such as chapels and recital halls. They are both designed for very similar spaces and uses, but there is a difference in how the spaces are used, and therefore, how the wireless system are used. That means that both wireless systems have similar but slightly different features as well. Also, although the ULXD can be utilized in this way, the primary difference, at least from what I understand, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that the ULXD is designed more for a space that has one booth and mixer, where as the Anxient Digital is better suited for for places where there is more the one booth and mixer, such as an event center or sports stadium.

Crazy how all these prices have increased. ULXD SM58 is $609. The Quad is now $6,400 the dual is $3,400. Crazy.

This was a great video for the system. I like the comparisons at the end to other Shure tier wireless products.

I know this video is a couple of years old but I have two of the quad units with an assortment of accessories. One thing that was not touched upon is the ability to use wireless workbench for both frequency coordination and directly programming the units. That to me is a very important feature, Also of course being able to adjust digital gain and see the battery life directly from my Yamaha consoles.
@ScottUhlMusic10 ай бұрын
Using with wireless workbench is definitely a massive plus for this unit 👍

The Dual and Quad receivers add two key additional features the single ULDX receiver doesn’t have: Dante audio and antenna cascading. The Dante audio network port allows passing digital audio straight into your Dante network without any of the digital to analog conversion that happens when you’re using the XLR output. The antenna cascade allows using the antenna from ULXD dual or quad rack unit to feed another rack unit. (Shure recommends only cascading to one additional ULXD.) So if you have two units, you only need the antennas from one of them and you don’t need a separate antenna distribution rack unit.

Damn, just when i thought ive seen all the available shure wireless systems and that there cant possibly be any more than the ULX ,out of no where you mention the Axient digital which kinda blew my mind from just looking at it, it looks like its probably $1500 more than the ULXD.

Should I keep it at 20mw or 10mw for female vocals? and how do you recommend the whole setup from base to handle for a female vocalist singing live with a band?
@ScottUhlMusic Жыл бұрын
Mw is just for the “strength” of the signal, so if you are going further set it to 20. But most of the time you don’t need that. Setting it higher than it needs to be at closer distances will cause more problems, so use it correctly.
@miramedanlive Жыл бұрын
@@ScottUhlMusic Thank you for your reply. How far do you think it is when you should switch to 20mw? When I'm working, I'm usually 5 to 20 meters from the receiver.

Very useful information. I have a question for you. Can you pair any shure receiver to any shure microphone? How does that work? I’m curious to know because I can probably afford to buy one of these receivers, but an old model with a newer nic. Is that possible? I’m no expert, I’m just a karaoke singer. Thanks for sharing this video
@ScottUhlMusic3 жыл бұрын
No, they need to be the same model and in the same frequency range in order to pair the transmitter and receiver together 👍

So whats the maximum number of mics you are able to connect to the ULX receiver ?
@ScottUhlMusic Жыл бұрын
How many mics can you connect to an individual receiver? Is that what you are asking? If so, you can only connect one at a time and that's true with basically any wireless. You cannot transmit multiple microphones to one wireless receiver. You can do that with in ear monitors (everyone set to the same frequency get the same mix), but you cannot do that with wireless mics. I don't know of any wireless mics that allow that.
@robbybee2614 Жыл бұрын
Im asking like for the single receiver how many mics can sync to it ? Because that doesnt make sense.. $1100 ULX receiver just syncs with 1 mic and thats it 😵💫
@ScottUhlMusic Жыл бұрын
@robby bee You want those mics transmitting all at once? You CANNOT have multiple wireless going to the same frequency channel. That's how the signal drops out. The only way you could do that is if you turned one mic on, and then turned the next mic off... and kept turning them on and then off and made sure that only 1 wireless was transmitting at the same time on that frequency. You can do that with multiple systems... pretty much unlimited. Just make sure that you never have two of them on at the same time.
