The Spur Cabin gets a front door! This means we are “officially” dried in.
Looking for door installation tips and techniques, they're right here!
Installing a front door isn't rocket science, but there are a LOT of steps that have to be taken before getting to the placement of the door. And this door in particular requires even an extra step or two, because I have to install jamb extensions on the frame before I hang it. The walls of the cabin are 2x6, and the door frame is made for a 2x4 wall. No sweat! You’ll see how it’s done.
Before I hang this door, I have to patch the wall sheathing beneath the doorway, add wrap, trim the sill plate, cut and install the jamb extensions, wrap the sill, caulk the sill with silicone, and THEN...I think I'm ready to put the door in the hole. I think... It's just that easy!
As a bonus, this episode includes video of scenery from a recent duck hunting trip. You won't believe the diverse landscapes I enjoyed OFF the Moose. From barren flatlands to jagged canyons, you won't want to miss it.
Thanks for checking out ‪@LifeontheMoose‬ ! Drop me a comment and let me know YOUR door installation tips and techniques.

Great video. I recently added a new front door to our place and maybe not the same manufacturer but the doors look the same. After a few months, we noticed the gap on the opening side was pulling away from the jam?? Where it had been tight there was now light and air coming in from the opening side. We determined the door, maybe due to the window was warping inwards. My neighbor, a big man, took hold of the door and actually twisted it back into shape? So in case some where down the road this happens, that is what we did. Anyone watching ever hear of that happening to them or someone you know? See you on the next one.

Hey thanks! Others have mentioned that, but I don’t think there’s any feasible way to do that. The extensions come with a threshold extension that only can fit on the exterior side. Hey someone noticed! I think I bought that knife in the 1980’s. Since then, I’ve bought perhaps a dozen new, better, safer knives. I don’t like any of them! Nothing fits my hand like the original. And if it’s awkward, it’s not safe. So old knife it is!

@colstace2560 11 ай бұрын
@@LifeontheMoose please explain 😊😊😊
@LifeontheMoose
@LifeontheMoose 11 ай бұрын
@@colstace2560 Several reasons…highest part of the threshold is in the innermost part of the door jamb/frame…by design for water draining to the outside. This is fixed to the frame already, and the inside surface is flush with the interior surface of the jamb, which by design extends into the interior a half inch, to allow for wall covering (drywall). The jamb extensions kit includes a threshold extension, which can only be attached to the exterior. The door extensions and exterior side of the jamb are thicker than the interior portion of the jamb, because that’s what the door closes against, so they couldn’t effectively be installed there. Plus, the door can’t be slid farther to the exterior through the opening, or it couldn’t open.

I'm thinking that you put that screw in the wrong spot. The idea is to remove one of the regular screws and replace it with the longer one. The hole that you put it in is supposed to line up with an extension on the opposite hinge. It's a security feature to prevent someone from removing the pin and pulling the door off, thereby bypassing the regular lock. I'm surprised that you didn't silicone caulk around the brick molding.
@LifeontheMoose
