Great video. Only thing I would've done differently is since in ASL you're "volume" is dertermied by how big you sign things during the quieter part when he's whispering sign really close to your body, and smaller movements, then when he is shouting sign it really BIG, and very exagerated, not saying it's a bad video, it's fantastic, just some personal advice that may improve your technique a little.

I love this! I'd never seen the sign for "kryptonite" before; I just assumed you would fingerspell it.

James Cutts IV She didn't actually use a sign for kryptonite, if you want to say that specifically you need to spell it. However, translation is about concept rather than words. When we in English say "she is my kryptonite" we really mean "she is my weakness", which is the sign you saw.

My apologies if you took offense to the wording. Congratulations learning a new sign! Keep in mind also that she signed it with palm orientation of the base hand facing her right, which is not the only way you'll see it. You may, and in my experience will, see it more often with base palm orientation up, as if forming a floor where the fingers of the dominant hand bend while resting on top.

Reepecheep I understand; no offense was taken. :) I'm still very early in my study of ASL, so I'm finding seeing PSE in contexts like this to be helpful in learning the vocabulary. Seeing "pure" ASL is much, much harder to follow, even when I know the English being translated. Learning ASL is in many ways very different from learning other languages I've studied, like German and French. It's very challenging and exciting.

James Cutts IV It is a fun and exciting language to learn. I'm glad you're taking steps toward it, it is well worth the time spent. PSE is used for just such a purpose, to allow for ease of vocab absorption. However, I would recommend only doing that for a very short time, as trying to learn ASL via PSE can lead to some bad habits that you may not even realize you're getting and may be very difficult to break later. It may be better to "struggle" through viewing ASL as much as possible rather than PSE as it will, although more difficult, will make it much faster to pick up the language with all the right habits. Best of luck in your studies!
