I'm so late to arrive, but I found a really old video of yours and then started going thru the history of this channel. I don't know if you'll see this but I just wanted to say that I think it's really admirable that you made the choice to listen to the deaf community who were critical of your videos and stop making them. I'm so sorry and sad to see all the pain that it seems to have caused you (not to dismiss the harm that some deaf people have also expressed). I'm just learning ASL and more about the deaf community (which is how i found that old video), and I too have a really hard time understanding so much of the criticism towards you specifically. I understand it better with other channels, but in the deep dive i've taken on your channel it never came off to me as tho you were passing yourself off as an expert or trying to appropriate a language and culture. But as someone who is not part of that marginalized community, I recognize that I should probably just accept that it doesn't matter whether or not I can understand it, I just have to accept it. ANYWAY, I just hope that you are doing well and continuing to learn ASL if it still brings you joy to do so. And I just wanted to recognize that it seems like you went thru a lot with all of this for all sides and I respect and admire how you've chosen to deal with it all.

I wonder if the asl is shorter due to the signer not knowing enough asl, or if asl is meant to be so concise. Being hearing, id liken it to a foriegn film poorly dubbed into English. Id prefer a translation that more precisely matches the lips of the original, instead of what more accurately represents how a English speaker would say it. I would post this on the asl channel, but they blocked comments. Meaning absolutely no disrespect to the asl signer. I know nothing . In this translation, Asl is just so much smaller than pse, i wonder if some things are being lost in translation.

On a different note, I just want to introduce myself. My name is Kelli and I have a son who is deaf and disabled and one of his most cherished joys is to watch your videos on KZbin. I have always been a fan and will continue to be a fan because of the joy you bring to him. There will always be people out there that won’t like you or approve of what you’re doing, but we can’t live our lives according to the judgments and opinions of others. If we did that, we wouldn’t do anything. There is a place in the universe for what you do along with whatever other people, the Deaf community or otherwise want to do. Instead of criticizing you for what you’re putting out there, they can do their own thing. There’s enough space in the universe for all of us. My son has also never been very welcome into theDeaf community, because he is also disabled. Hey - do you ever consider taking your act on the road? My son and I would totally be there to watch you and meet you.
