I played a mod on warcraft 3 a few years ago with my friends that is very similiar to this game.All the players start out as peasants during the start of the game and they are send out to find a safe area to build a base as a defences against the werewolf.When night time came , one of the peasants will be selected at random to become the werewolf.

Hmm, we used to play a game called "Mafia", with almost exactly the same rules. The only difference was that it didn't need any fancy cards. Also, we house-ruled the shit out of it, too.

werewolf is based of Mafia it simply adds a large amount of variety through varied roles.

The game Mafia went "viral" and obtained "meme" status cause it was a game invented by a Moscow University professor as a psychology experiment and students started playing it in their dorm rooms and eventually it spread to the US through MIT. Originally it was just people given a piece of paper and wrote roles down, but people eventually just took the rules and apply it to a deck of cards. Somewhere in between people writing stuff down on pieces of paper and people homebrewing the rules to a deck of cards the original official printed copy of Mafia was born, but it was released back in the days where people associated board games to stuff like Sorry and Monopoly, so no one really bought it.

I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but while I find the card game interesting, I kinda watch it more for the cooking at the end. And that Chilli was awesome!!! Coffee and baaadddd chocolate work surprisingly well.

Ultimate Werewolf includes roles other than just werewolf and villager. You could use cards to assign these roles as well, but a lot of people would find having the card with their role and what that roles does to be simpler and more enjoyable.

I enjoyed Ultimate Werewolf, but the most people I've played card/board games with is 12 and that's pretty rare. So I'll probably grab masquerade if I want another party game. It looked like a ton of fun.

Well yes, but I suspect "Ultimate Werewolf" is more something you buy as both a novelty item and a reminder. Besides, it's a bit more satisfying as a player to see a Werewolf picture than an ace. I suspect they only did this box of cards for atmosphere/theme purposes (and money, but that's obvious).

Silas Connall Honestly, I thought that till I got it, and the amount of roles you get is crazy, and it opens up way more opportunities than villager werewolf seer. I also have a problem not knowing what your role is.

Actually, this is just a more laid out version of a game (not a board game) called Mafia. In Mafia, either pieces of paper or a deck of playing cards is used to give everyone their role but, things like ghosts and vampires are not in the game. There is, however, doctors and police. A doctor can choose someone at random and, if that person is chosen to die that day, the person does not die. The police can choose someone at random to see if they are the warewolf. If they are, then that person dies

Werewolf: Translvania, its honestly an amazing mod and I still play it to this day. Someone made this game in starcraft 2 but its horrible as the mod creator will sell the ability to see all chats for 10$
