I can't remember the exacr size of the thread - but it's likely to be a size 10. It's hand dyed, so it doesn't have a number. I get my thread from Alenalea Design on Etsy.

What about the knot? That can't be included with a pattern, could it?

No, the knot isn't included in the pattern. Two threads are tied together just to show the technique - so basically the knot represents the element that would come BEFORE the split ring and bead. So it would be either a ring or a chain, at the end of the ring or chain you would go into making the split ring and bead.
