Success! I messed up my first attempt, pulled the shuttle thread through and had a closed ring of 7 stitches. I continued from that small ring and had success! Thank you for helping me get beyond the little things so I can make great things with my tatting.

I am about to challenge myself with a dragon pattern that calls for SSSR. I didn't even know that it could be done. I watched several videos on how to do this but I couldn't figure it out. Thank you for showing the details on how this is done. I think I'm ready to practice. Also, thank you so much for your channel. When I got started on tatting, your channel was the only one I could understand. I really appreciate how you take your time and don't let your hands get in the way of showing details. Thank you so much!!!

very cool!😃👍🏼I have been needle tatting since Oct 2019 and now shuttle since last week (teaching myself--with your help!!). how is it that your shuttle threads pulls from the bobbin so easily? i have a Aerlit bobbin shuttle with hook and Starlit post shuttle with sharp point. I am preferring the post but you make the bobbin look very handy.
@11Frivole5 жыл бұрын
Hello, I really love bobbin shuttles as I find it so much quicker to unwind thread as I work (as you say). The Aerlit has a ratchet (a line in the plastic that catches in the grooves of the bobbin) and this can be rather stiff to start with. Sometimes they soften, sometimes they end up becoming too loose. I do have some Aerlits myself but my preferred shuttles are Aero shuttles, the newer type. I find them quiet and, for me, I get just the right tension on the bobbin so that I can unwind easily as I work. Good luck with learning shuttle tatting, I hope you enjoy it!

Frivole thank you! great vids😃👍🏼🧶🧶🧶 PS: i realized tonight that i need to use good quality thread and walk the thread to load shuttle. i have been getting a lot of twisting in the row of ds and ugly ds 😜 I am trying some Lizbeth 10🤞🏼 Update: Aero shuttle was not readily available where I usually buy supplies but I found them! 👍🏼

Thank you for all you do. You are remarkable. I do have a question. Is it at all possible to do the SSSR in alternating colors? One ring red, the next one black the next one red and so on.
@11Frivole5 жыл бұрын
Mmm, that's an interesting questions Teresa and one I hadn't considered. But my guess would be yes (although I'd have to test it). You'd have to start with two shuttles and carry the colour not in use along the core thread of the ring made in the other colour (does that make sense?).
@11Frivole5 жыл бұрын
Hi Teresa, I just uploaded a new video that shows how to make alternating colour single shuttle split rings. You can find it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGiqlmetptObrZY

Once again a fantastic learning video! Can you help with making chains? Mine always come out lopsided with the stitches not staying in an even row. They look hideous. Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!
@11Frivole5 жыл бұрын
Hi Samantha, I think it's just a matter of being really consistent with your stitches, making sure they are the same size as you pull each new knot, comparing it to the previous so that it's the same size and height. And then also being careful when you snug the chain at the end so that it has a nice curve. Would a video help?

Would you be able to use this in the same fashion as a two shuttle split ring, with picots and joins? Having a hard time figuring this out
@11Frivole4 жыл бұрын
Hello, yes, you certainly could as you can just as easily make picots to join to afterwards using this method.

Hi :), If I tat FSBS do I need to reverse my half stitches or do anything differently in general?
@11Frivole2 жыл бұрын
You can also reverse your joins if you wish (use an up join or a down join depending on which side you are working) but I'm not sure what you mean about reversing half-stitches... on the back side you would always work 2nd half followed by 1st half.
@christinaastreha2 жыл бұрын
@@11Frivole okay I understand :) . Does reversing the joins makes it look more cohesive?
@11Frivole2 жыл бұрын
@@christinaastreha We're really getting into minute detail here... but I suppose yes, if you use the right join, it looks a bit more like a complete stitch so might seem more "cohesive" as you say. I have a video demonstrating both joins, have you seen it? You can view it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXzGlJewZaiNf9U I don't like to be prescriptive about anything and feel it's for everyone to try and see what they prefer. I tatted "traditional" tatting for most of my life before starting to use FSBS in certain circumstances, ie. special pieces that will only be viewed from the front for example. I still tat traditional most of the time because then I feel the piece is "reversible", there is not one side that looks better than the other. And I think to most uninitiated, meaning most people who don't tat, they wouldn't notice the difference. But try it and let me know what you think and if you prefer FSBS. 🙂
@christinaastreha2 жыл бұрын
@@11Frivole Thanks you very much for discussing your opinions with me. I have been practicing for 2 weeks but I need to continue and try on a lot more to form my preferences and style. From where I am, I just might say that FSBS seems a little more fussy, with constantly thinking about reversing moves but the outcome might still worth it we'll see. Thanks thanks! :)
@11Frivole2 жыл бұрын
@@christinaastreha Yes, you are right that it can feel a little more "fussy"... I have to concentrate more when I tat FSBS to remember what side I'm on and whether I'm starting with a second half or a first half! I'll look forward to hearing what's your conclusion on the matter and which method you prefer to use most often.

I plan on trying this technique tonight, but I have a question. Is one side of your split ring thicker than the other? On one side you are tatting with a single strand of thread, but on the second side you are tatting with both strands of the loop.
@11Frivole3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa, yes, you are right, one side would be slightly thicker but it's not really noticeable.

Hello Frivole! I've been tatting with what you've taught me, but I have a question: can you make a split ring with a single shuttle and ball? I can only find single and double shuttle methods.
@11Frivole2 жыл бұрын
Hello Purly, it's not impossible but rather difficult to make a split ring with a ball as you would need to use the ball to make the stitches on one half of the split ring.
