Hello Hans. Thank you for posting all these videos. Do you have plans to make more? I've only been tying for a year, and have watched a great deal of your work. Thank you.

Hi Brad, Thanks for your comments. These patterns will get you some fine fish on the streams like the Beaverkill, the Willowemoc, the Neversink or the East Branch. Cheers, Hans W

Mr Weilenmann, I hope you are well. May I ask as to why you have not posted a video for almost three years now? I always found your style of tying and speaking/instruction wonderful.

Love your videos Mr. Weilenmann. Thank you for sharing all of these great patterns! I have the book that you co-wrote with John Van Vliet "365 Trout Flies", it is great. I really like your take on the Hare & Copper in the book it would be great to see a tying video for that pattern. Thanks Again, -Will

Gr8 video Hanz. Do you use your leftover feathers for anything or just throw them away?
@HansWeilenmann
@HansWeilenmann 10 жыл бұрын
I take it you are referencing CDC? In this case there is little left of them - and I discard the leftovers.

Hi Hans. Just a question for you..... while watching a youtube video I got into a short conversation about the LAW vice. He stated that you designed it and Lawrence machined it. Is this true?
@HansWeilenmann
@HansWeilenmann 4 жыл бұрын
El Duderoony, I asked Lawrence to make me a vice. I wrote down the functional specifications for my ‘perfect’ vice. Lawrence translated a wishlist into an actual product. The credit is justly his. Cheers, Hans

Thank you for the reply Hans. That makes things understandable for me. Not that it mattered it’s just that I like to get my facts right. Cheers.

Hi! I was hoping you may be able to read this and give me any information you may have on Strait-Way Fly Tying Vises. I saw an article on the web that you and Bruce wrote about vise reviews. There is a picture of a Strait-Way vise but no information on it. Can you provide me with any info on these vises? I thank you in advance!
@HansWeilenmann
@HansWeilenmann 6 жыл бұрын
Charlie - the Strait-way jaw design has, imnsho, too many flaws to recommend. The most important flaw is that after the loop has tightened onto the hook, it has good hook holding for tension up/down - and the hook moves when side tension is applied. The loop also tends to mark the hook finish. Regards, Hans

Thanks for the information. I did notice exactly that about the hook holding abilities. Is the picture on the website you did the article on a Strait-Way? It looks like it but was curious. Thanks again for the information and I am really enjoying watching your fly tying videos here on your site! Thanks for sharing those!!!

Charlie, the design has been tried by several makers - two flavors. One have a flat metal protrusion with a hole to poke the hook point through, then the loop is retracted. The variation is that a wire loop is used. Neither design works, both share similar flaws.
