I have to say that after playing hostage negotiator Crimewave quite a few times, and running into bad luck every now and then, it was part of the drama of the story. It wasn’t the fact that I had bad luck. It was the fact that the doctor went crazy or one of the cops that was assisting me was choking on a doughnut and we had to stop and save her and meanwhile the abductor escaped. Just a brilliant game

"Stop, put the dice down!" "No, put the dice down!!" "PUT THE DICE DOWN!!!!" Love this bit with Quinns the reviewer scolding Quinns the player to make a point about the core theme of the game. Brilliant!! Nobody combines information and humor like SU&SD.

Adding a like and comment because screw lawyers and by proxy, maybe even Stan Bush. What a waste of resources. This review is packed with so much humor that a small snippet of "The Touch" barely even registers. Anyway, copyright law is far beyond nonsense and board game reviews are sweet. Long live SU&SD.

I only just now realized that in the intro, when Quinns keeps messing with the audience's expectations about "The coolest job to have", he's literally doing the same thing as the ice cream vendor he describes. Woooop! Ha, ha, ha!

just managed to get hold of the 'Crime Wave' box and the game is slippery but entertaining, twice now I've managed to save all the hostages only to realise I don't have quite enough time to deal with the hostage-taker too... You may only get 4 criminals in the first box, but I can see this keeping occupied for a while! Excellent recommendation!...

If i'm playing and i say "i'll go ahead and let these people die because i still have enough to win", i'm not sure i'm a very good hostage negotiator
@AlamarianJ Жыл бұрын
The end game is the only thematic failing for me. If running low on terror cards, it can be a better strategy to allow hostages to die because if any hostages remain in the pool, I fail. And if I eliminate the abductor, save every hostage but one and am unlucky enough not to get that final hostage rescued (because he 2nd in command will never kill the last hostage), I lose. But if I let the abductor kill the last hostage, then eliminate them I win? I realize the idea is to punish killing the abductor rather than talking them down, for thematic and gameplay reasons, but it feels odd and also some of the abductors are designed to be very hard to keep calm.
@gunsbulletsheroin4 ай бұрын
@@AlamarianJ I'm playing the base game and yeah, it feels kind of lame that I actually want a few hostages to die so I don't have to rescue them all. It sounds like this problem is kind of solved by Career mode though since that makes hostages a limited resource so you might actually want to save them all.

This review made this sound pretty popping, so I went to see if I could get it (in the UK) and absolutely nowhere has it, the last reprint of the base game seems to have been 2017, so it was second hand or nothing. Luckily I was able to find someone in France and even with postage, got it, miraculously, for around RRP in total (£27). I'm hoping they reprint Career and Crime Wave again soon as I'd love to get my hands on them.

I just got this a few days ago and I've been thoroughly enjoying it. I won my first negotiation against Lijah with only 2 hostages killed. Then I went on to try my hand against Donna and proceeded to get thrashed, saving only 3 of the 15 hostages - she had taken an extra 3 early on. I managed to turn things around when I went up against Arkayne, losing only 2 hostages, and then swept through my 2nd negotiation with Donna by saving every hostage (including the extra 3 she had taken... AGAIN) and getting her to surrender on the last terror card before the pivotal event. Once I have a go at Edward, I figure I'll be ready to tackle the career mode.

I find it strange that Quinns didn't like Nemo's war but liked this game. I'm completely on the opposite. This game is purely based on luck. Getting the more powerful cards which seem to help you mitigate some of that luck is extremely hard and luck-based because they are very expensive, and even when you get them, they are discarded on the turn you use them and may be completely worthless if you fail the roll, rendering the early effort to get them in the first place (which was already luck-based) useless. Then on top of that you have to deal with the terror deck, which can completely destroy the game in one or two cards. Nemo's war also uses dice for everything you do, but offers a whole palette of tactical and strategic choices everywhere.
