By the way Simon was a really good player . Before his 2 years out at Celtic he was just starting to break through at 18 and really was highly thought of . Was such a shame he got such a bad injury but no matter what people think of how his career went , credit to him for starting the podcast and the link with a part time team he made which was a year long affair that also made great KZbin stories , he takes risks and I respect that

Making fun of Si's gear and Fenners is sitting there looking like a proper birder or train spotter, he's off to the woods with his bi noculars after this. Sharp trackie Jimmy! This is so funny, the story in Italy my sides split open. That guy with the Di Canio tattoo doesn't know how lucky he was that Si behaved himself 🤣 He's Italian, just hit him he'll roll about on the floor 12 times. The question about new signings, Solanke would have been my pic, a fantasy football fav for me, before Spurs he just seems to score every week even in losses. Solanke is one of the best strikers I have seen in EPL recently.

Very first question never really got answered. It's all really due to twitter. Back in the day it was a world apart from the EPL. Everybody was on there, and mad amounts of drama obviously. Some bad stuff went down with Lenny but a lot of his fringe players were popular. Si more or less straight away became the ideal guy to do something like a podcast, because he was just the way he is on your show right here. Just loves the game and the lifestyle. Always on it, always having a laugh. And yous absolutely should get Gravesen on here. A force of nature.

Some funny stories but just comes across as pretty tragic to me. And is part of the problem with our culture as Scots - too many of us see our reputation growing up defined by how many pints we can drink & how much trouble we can get into. Bullard gets it, as much as he's laughing can see he thinks it's pretty sad. Respect to Si for starting Open Goal, but he still seems more interested on the nights out when he's interviewing guests. It just gets a bit boring after a while, yeah we get it, you were a p*ss head and you flushed your career down the toilet (slow hand-clap). I'd swap that badge of honour for some Championship medals and international caps any day.
@walshknwsbestАй бұрын
Maybe it’s just his personality. Maybe it isn’t that deep. He’s more succesful than 99% of other Scots who have played the game. He’s still doing work that he enjoys doing and gets paid pretty well for it. I think the majority would be quite content with that. Maybe have a look at your own life or that of the average person when comparing his ain’t that bad. Better to have a few characters like him than the norm. Life would be boring without a bit of madness
@mattyrossfilmsАй бұрын
@walshknwsbest I agree, I said good on him for Open Goal, he's obviously done really well with it. And I get that his stories & character contribute to that success and why he's well revered. I just find the patter boring now, if I want to hear the same stories of how someone with potential p*issed their career away I can just head to my local. Funny at first, sad when it's all they talk about. It's not something I like us as a nation celebrating like it's something to be proud of. Seen too many kids waste their potential because of this bullsh*t notion that getting f*cked up gives you more rep. Got more time for Slaney, equally gifted but didn't make it due to his struggles with MH. That vulnerability makes him more humble & genuine in interviews and a lot funnier too. Absolutely the world would be a lot worse off without characters, I guess I just look for a bit more substance than being known as the guy who pours pints over his head on a night out. But what do I know, f**k it - each to their own.
@jackjones1249Ай бұрын
Not just scots the whole of the UK. If Si hadnt got injured and stayed at celtic things would have probably turned out different. There is a huge drinking culture in the english lower leagues and going to swindon was the worst move for Si. Having said that, its everyones choice which path they take and if he is happy with how it went then who are you to say its tragic.
@mattyrossfilmsАй бұрын
@@jackjones1249 I said he's done well & credit to him with Open Goal and the success he's had with that. When I say tragic it's in context to his football career that we celebrate him being a rocket rather than anything he did on the pitch. Bullard was/is a prankster & a character but he had a great career and can talk about more than just pouring pints over his head and getting wrecked.
@jackjones1249Ай бұрын
@@mattyrossfilms Si was never the same player after his 2 year injury, but moving away was probably the worst thing he did football wise.
