Every time I see the relatively small number of listeners, I marvel despairingly. Why are trillions not watching this?

A miserable number, yes. Things NOLA don’t get mainstream that easily. A redhead with a low cut blouse might get international fame but most NOLA artists have to live in the glory of being cool where cool counts. /// Playing a straight soprano sax myself, I can’t fathom how that curved thing makes such a pretty sound.

1. Glen Zottola trumpet, Mark Shane piano, Chris Flory guitar and banjo, Phil Flanigan bass Chuck Ridges drums 2.New Orleans 3. 12 Bar Blues 4.I love this Sydney Bechet masterpiece. Its a more relaxed version of New Orleans, almost with a bit of postbop. I didn't include his because I couldn't find who else played on the original version.

Think the upload was slowed down somehow. Raise the playback speed to 1.25 sounds good there.

It's so funny. Wilber has studied with Bechet and he tries to play his music. But Wilber is - to my mind - more on the pensive, sophisticated, Lester-Young, Pee-Wee-Russel- , side of jazz. When he plays Bechet's pieces, they sound awkwardly lifeless to me. Maybe he simply should concentrate on other pieces, which are more suitable to him.

You're so right; he gets the sound; never gets closes to the music.

I whole-heartedly disagree. I hear the love.

He plays the music of bechet like wilber, as it should be. Europe is full of more direct bechet imitators. Imo he's a great soprano player as well as alto and clarinet.

MrJimmienoone The point of playing jazz is sounding like yourself, not like your idols, mentors or teachers. So Wilber did fine.
