Learn about Roger Deakins. He is the Cinematographer on the first movie. also on prisoners and blade runner 2049. Same guy did 1917. I highly recommend The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford if you want to see his best shots in my opinion.

I can tell this show is with my dads old agency I know because my dad was an Agent for that Agency and that’s D.E.A and my dad was an Agent for the D.E.A (Drug Enforcement Administration) for 28 years and he’s arrested bad guys before and he has worked in Los Angeles San Francisco Hawaii and Miami Florida and he’s lost Agents before from shootings in Los Angeles and the agents that worked for him in Los Angeles they all got shot in the head and center mass and I know because I’m a son of a former DEA agent and he’s even arrested a Mexican person that got in his face and he’s arrested Yakuza Hawaiian gangs and some Mexican bad guys like the cartels I think and my uncle was also D. E.A (Drug Enforcement Administration) retired in 1996 and my dad has been in lots of shootings before and my dad has the gun that they used before in this show the P229 and the M4 with Eotech Sight and I would do the same thing put bad guys away and I would love to arrest the bad guys even if it’s cartels and when my dads old agency arrested Barry Seal my dad was at Quantico Virginia at the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) academy and I got the DEA badge my father gave me when I graduated 5th grade and I got the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) vest and a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) shirt that my dad gave me and he’s slammed bad guys on cars and on walls for Resisting arrest and my dad saved kids from Meth houses and has put them in foster homes and my dad has said to a mother and father if you don’t cooperate I’m going to send your kid to a foster home 🏠 and so my dad has dealt with bad guys before and he’s even worked in Madrid Spain 🇪🇸 and he even arrested Bad guys in Columbia too Bet you didn’t know that either I know because I’m a son of a real former DEA agent

The original script ended differently then the movie: * After Miguel jumps off the truck, he runs back to where he shot Alejandro and helps him by cutting his restraints. Alejandro watches Miguel run away. Matt saves Isabel - thanks to a beacon she has in her shoes - and kills everyone else, as we see in the movie. * Alejandro goes to take the car, as we see in the movie. He drives off to kill Isabel's farther, Carlos, restarting the beacon Isabel left in the car, to alert Matt of where he's going. Matt sets up a fake news report saying Isabel was killed, to lure more of the cartel to Carlos' place. This also allows Isabel to get a new life, and she asks Matt to start school at the University of Michigan. * At the cartel house, Alejandro and Carlos has a cool standoff and Carlos reveals that he knows his daughter is safe. Then a huge shootout starts, as Alejandro goes from one room to the next, killing all the cartel in the house. * Waiting to board her plane to Michigan, Isabel sees on the news that her family was killed, but she isn't sad about it. * Much later, Miguel has become a part of the cartel who helps get people across the boarder. On his way home, stopping at a coffeeshop, Alejandro is sitting at a table, waiting for Miguel. As in the movie, Alejandro says "So, you want to be a Sicario", except Miguel answers "No" and shakes his head, to which Alejandro replies "Yes, I am the proof" showing his face to him. Alejandro says "It's time we discuss your future" as the camera slowly zooms out, and the film ends. I wish they would have sticked to the original script. It showed that despite everything, Alejandro finished his mission. And the reason why Alejandro wanted to hire Miguel in the end, is because Miguel freed him, showing himself to have a good heart.

Both movies plots are "we're going into Mexico to start a war between cartels." In the first movie we're take along that experience with them as they execute their plans flawlessly. This is essentially another iteration except their plans are foiled and they're forced to adapt. This isn't a direction issue, it's just not the best screenplay by Taylor Sheridan.

Especially considering where you’re shot in the face. They call it the “dumbbell of death” but it’s shaped like a capital I, starts at your sternum, follows up in a thin line along your spine and arteries in your neck, and only spreads out at your eyes. Shoot someone in the dumbbell and its guaranteed death, anywhere else, even if it’s in the head or neck, as long as it’s not in the dumbbell of death, it’ll only be a minor injury surprisingly enough. I’ve seen friends survive shots to the mouth and cheekbones and survive.

The screenplay was my main issue with it. There was a sense of grounded realism in the first movie that kept me immersed. This one and the scenario it played out felt like a bad Tom clancy novel written by an armchair general. From what I read about this movie was that Sicario and Day of Soldado were originally 2 separate scripts for 2 separate movies. The studio picked Sicario and with a lot of tweaking from the director and Benicio Del Toro made that into a masterpiece of filmmaking. Day of soldado was made because the studio just wanted to cheaply capitalize on Sicarios success. To make an analogy Sicario is akin to First Blood while Day of Soldado is akin Rambo: First Blood part 2. Where the second movie completely missed the point and subtlety of the first movie in exchange for dumb down spectacle and action sequences.

Josh Brolin was rightfully impressed with Isabella Merced's acting in this movie, but she actually impressed me first in the ridiculous "Dora and the Lost City of Gold." Think of the segmented story as levels of influence or degrees of involvement. It's a snap shot of how vulnerable people get absorbed into criminal activities. The young boy exhibited signs of regretting his choices (jumping off the back of the truck), after shooting Alejandro. But within a year he's fully committed to the cartel. I feel Alejandro is recruiting his replacement at the end. I'm also hoping for a third installment. Great movies.

I think the girl's situation was living in a mansion without either her father the cartel leader--or her mother who lives in the States. There are all kinds of staff attending to her--but she has no sense of family. This could have been better as a sequel. I still hope that with the closing there still may be another movie.

She clearly has sense of the family. She knows who her Father is. She knows who Alejandro is. She said "You're the guy who's family they killed." So she clearly isn't ignorant of the whole situation. @lizetteolsen3218
@lizetteolsen3218 4 ай бұрын
@@liljackypaper Yes the daring the headmaster to expell her is the only sense of power she has. Neither of her parents live with her. That takes a toll on a child --being raised by staff. She understands her father and his business but not from an insider perspective. More an outside observer. I wondered if the mother moved to the States to avoid something more nefarious. Sounded pretty grim for a single child all alone in a mansion.

So the reason why this movie isn't as well received as the first one is because the first one had a deeper message. Yes they both have really good action scenes but the sequel is surface level and people really didn't like the abrupt ending. I think Sicario is better as a stand alone movie than as a part of a trilogy. Now the 3rd movie, if we ever get it, could tie everything up nice and neat and bring closure, but it has its work cut out for it.

I liked this movie because it shows the absolute mess the war on drugs (and human trafficking) often is. A movie about that whole chaotic world needs to also feel chaotic. You are not wrong in your analysis. But the performance from the young gril is remarkable. She is unlikeable in the beginning as the entitled daughter of a drug lord, but you build empathy for her as you see the world she is a part of. I think it's very intentional that the story with the girl ends because if she is put in protective custody, she would just disappear. And the ending (to me) is that they were recruiting the son of the drug lord to be an informant or insider.

Regarding the Narco kids... in the first movie Alejandro kills the two boys not just for vengeance, but because they would likely inherit the family business and were already entrenched into that lifestyle to some degree since they lived close with their Kingpin father. They would have been loose ends out for revenge in a couple of years no doubt about it. Isabelle was different though, she lived in her own mansion with servants. She knew what her family did, but didn't seem to be directly involved and just a beneficiary of it, basically kept out of most of the loops. Kind of like an inside outsider. In any event, Alejandro saw something of his own daughter in her during his time securing her border passage at the deaf couple's house or even before that, but after that scene he was committed to keeping her safe. It's a well done flip-flop of the narrative between the two movies. Additionally, the first movie's mission is deemed successful while this one's fucked sideways halfway through. They're both a nice dichotomy or whatever you'd want to call it. The story felt like a mess compared to the first film because the mission was fucked. The first movie was portraying a successful mission where everything makes sense when you know all of the information. And Benicio/Denis didn't doctor the script this time. The whole thing with the bombing feeling unconnected is intended. We were so sure we had all the pieces to the puzzle and were making the right call, but it turns out the entire illegal OP was founded on faulty intel and they had to completely sever all ties to it. 36:30 Convenient is a good way to put it. There's no realistic way Miguel recognized Alejandro in that scene, that should have been shot differently for it to actually work. Alejandro was being backlit by headlights directly behind him while wearing a cowboy hat, no chance the kid saw any facial features at night and from a distance. That isn't how light & shadow work.

There is a lot that's wacky about Alejandro's survival in this film. Just one off the top of my head: with the amount of blood loss he has been experiencing for what is portrayed to be hours, if not the entire night and into the next day, is going to massively dehydrate him. Add that to laying out all day in the desert sun, plus clambering up the side of the crater, plus the trek to the vehicles...I'm not gonna say it would be impossible, but highly unlikely that someone survives that. Just to add another wrinkle, you can add to his dehydration the fact that they wrap his head in duct tape tighter than a mummy, so even if he is breathing, he is able to get very little oxygen, and adding the desert heat, if he doesn't die of dehydration/blood-loss, he is dying of suffocation while comatose. All that said, though, Benicio does such a great job in that whole sequence, that he really makes you feel how dreadful he is likely feeling. Especially as he drives down the road, you can really sense the pain/weakness/nausea he is probably feeling.

Maybe it's just me but I don't think the thing with the kid was that coincidental or overly convenient. He clearly saw Alejandro at the parking lot and they stared at each other for a good while & if you're a teenager you're definitely going to remember almost getting hit by a car while a dude stares at you somewhat menacingly. Then a little later while you're in Mexico you see a dude who looks eerily similar to that guy and you're trying to prove yourself to the cartel. You'd be suspicious and say something as well. The kid was pretty observant and that's probably partially why Alejandro sees something in him and ambushes him in the end of the film

There's a big problem with how they set up that plot twist though. There's no way in hell this kid is going to recognize our guy Alejandro's face from I dunno, let's say 50-100ft away at night while he's being backlit by headlights directly behind him while wearing a cowboy hat. That just isn't how light & shadow work, especially to the naked eye at a distance in the dark. Personally I'm on the fence on whether or not I think Alejandro was at the fast food place to recruit Miguel or to kill him. You could make an argument for either outcome to be honest.

Sicario and Sicario: Day of the Soldado were both written by Taylor Sheridan. I was surprised the hate that the sequel got. While not on the level of the first movie (hard for any director to compete with Denis Villeneuve), I felt it was a very good movie that had plenty of shock value. I'm happy to have this in my movie collection.

Sicario 2 was okay but there is a Sicario 3 in the works that Taylor Sheridan has written. I don't know if Denis Villeneuve will be involved but I don't think he's directing it. Good reaction guys.

Was Day of the Soldado as good as the first Sicario? No. The first movie was unlike anything I'd ever seen before. The writing was phenomenal, the characters were excellent, and the plot was second to none. Not to mention the music was outstanding, and it really made the movie THAT much better. Day of the Soldado was still a very solid movie, with the same great characters in Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro, and the addition of Isabela Merced. I just feel that it would've been better as a standalone movie, instead of being connected with the first Sicario.

You should work in Wind River and Hell or High Water, both born of the mind of Taylor Sheridan (Sicario and TV Yellowstone). These round out Sheridan's Modern American West trilogy. Both are world class gut punches. They ain't many happy endings in the modern American West.

I look at this movie as more of a slice of life look into CIA, homeland security, and cartel operations. Political narratives and false intel totally screwed over the frontline operatives and they were supposed to just take it on the chin and move on to the next operation. Alejandro talking to the kid about being a sicario is him giving the kid the option to live vs executing him where he stands. He sees the kid as more a product of his environment and is taking an opportunity to shape him into something more than a coyote or thug.

Didn’t even have the desire to watch this movie until I saw the comments on your reaction to the first one. Just got done watching this so I could now watch your reaction to it. Personally, I thought it was pretty good. Maybe didn’t have the same amount of high-stakes decisions and gore as the first one but I didn’t mind. For its storyline I thought it was good. I only wish we could have gotten Isabel seeing/finding out that Alejandro did actually survive. Felt like she started to feel safe with him and realized he most likely wouldn’t hurt her.

The Boondock Saints. They prefer a completely dark sky when they jump. The also do HALO(High Altitude Low Opening) jumps. They call them "coyotes" they're paid by the cartel to lead people across/to the border.

This was nowhere near as good as the first film. My big question was why the hell would Alejandro want to train the kid to be a Sicario, instead of returning the compliment and putting a bullet in his head, especially after the big speech in the first movie of telling Kate to never point a gun at him again? As a bare minimum, be consistent with what the character would do.

The writing is much worse in this sequel than the original. A huge problem is that the people that send them in to start a war would 1000% be aware that there is little difference between the cartel and the mexican government, practically speaking. So this idea that if a few mexican cops get killed that all of a sudden they'd overreact and shut them down is ridiculous. Especially as there's zero proof that it was the US involved in that operation. It's another example of the writers needed something to happen, so it just does without any rhyme or reason.

I usually bail when I hear reviewers talk about what does and doesn’t seem real in a story..Heck..if I wanted 100% real I could just hang out downtown, in my city…I guess you guys want some true kills?..Most stories we see in movies are based on degrees of truth….Men putting these type of crime scenarios in play in 2 hrs , can’t be actual….but that’s me..I just want to be engaged for that 2 hrs….
