Sicario: day of the soldado deaf guy scene (my personal favorite)

Tremendous acting from a very small part in the sicario movie. I loved the background music, the simplicity of the scene, the connection that these two characters had and the unbelievable GREAT acting on "Bruno Bichir" part i commend my friend you are now on my radar and I hope to see more of you in the future.

There is a song dedicated to a man who fought back with just a 22 bolt action rifle to allow time for his daughter and wife to escape. He was up against like 10 cartel gang members armed with US military rifles with grenade launcher attachments. I believe he killed between 2-5 guys before getting blown up by launched grenades.

I grew up with a deaf family member, the actor who plays Angel, nails all the mannerisms of someone who is deaf, the loud nose breathing, hands patting on his clothes whilst signing, making sounds with mouth and tongue whilst communicating, all the noises deaf people aren’t self conscious of not making. The scene was originally spoken but Benicio had the idea to make Angel's character deaf so it tied in with his daughter's story and made the scene much more powerful. Another American movie you might have seen Bruno in was The Quarry, or in the TV series Ozark.

My dad retired from the phone company, but continued to work as a plumber for people, and he loved to do jobs for people without the finances to pay for the name brand companies. I’d work with him over the summer, and we did a job at a house for deaf people, and a few times I heard the verbal mouth noises when they were communicating to each other sometimes. The one who showed us to the area we had to work used a lot of hand gestures and pats, as well as the mouth noises lol.

"She was." His demeanor, his physical delivery, about sums up the quiet intensity of his character. Everything is felt, but hidden. In a state of constant, burning mourning for his loss, and now with a living reminder of the precious life he was robbed of. Tragic in some unceasing sense. This film had a lot of great concepts and themes. It failed to deliver on that connection further between a young woman and hurting father, sadly. This was a glimpse of perfection, and the kind of harsh emotional understanding that the film could have delivered holistically. This should have been its focus almost entirely, with a scene like this a build up to a greater moment between these characters. It's almost as if this scene is a fragment of a better, more realized version of the script. But Day of The Soldado was good- not great like its predecessor. At least we got this scene, and a very thoughtful approach to disability, loss, and human decency. I'm glad they made this movie, even if its vision was a bit confused/fragmented, I think it delivered in a lot of small ways that adds up nicely.

This is an excellent analysis, you are a very intelligent and perceptive person. The movie would not sell though, if they played it how you say they should have, which I never knew until now but that would have been excellent. Alejandro's character is by far the dynamic core of the entire series. You hit the nail on the head, but it wouldn't be received by audiences if the movie was smart, the American public is not smart, it's no offense to the United States, I'm an American who is traveled a lot and I love this country so much, it's just that the people who make movie studios rich don't like good movies. Brolin character was forced to betray his friend and that's why he got so frustrated and pissed at the end and his remorse got him to disobey and save the girl, so i wouldn't say the movie was completely nihilistic. The last stare exchange between him and the girl was pretty good, they both suffered Alejandro's death. Alejandro carries a LOT of latent anger and pain...what's so impressive is how he keeps that contained. In Sicario (the 1st one), the confrontation scene was brimming with menace and rage but the dialogue was so calm and the delivery so patient. Benico really does an awesome job as Alejandro...and man whose shadow falling upon you...is what even the most daring men would dread.

This is where you see the character of Alejandro do a flip. The whole scene is so powerful and speaks volumes about the personality and character of Alejandro. He is a cold blooded Sicario but he also understands love. When he goes inside the house, he sees that the family is an exact mirror reflection of his past life i.e., totally opposite of what he had, because his daughter was deaf but Alejandro and his wife could hear and speak and in this scenario the baby girl is not deaf but the parents are. Hence the dialogue "Different Worlds".

I love how this helps establish what makes Alejandro tick. He's not your average, profoundly lacking in empathy, almost sociopathic type dude who's made a career in wetwork. He's not a ruthless killer, able to soullessly retire anyone for a price. He's running on pure revenge, and only has it out for those directly and also (very) indirectly involved. I hate on it for two reasons: -Having Benicio survive. That cheapened a lot of the weight of the finale. But I could forgive even that, if not for that ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS "epilogue" where they cut to 1 year later and have the cringiest line in cinema history: "So, you wanna be a /millionaire/ Sicario?" So fucking dumb. The rest of the movie was great and worthy of its name, though. I just read the original script and there, the farmer gives them shelter because he realizes Alejandro is El Medellin, and he seems to sympathize with the girl's being separated from her family because he explains that he's separated from his own daughters due to a visa issue. It's a perfectly fine scene that serves its function and has some interesting ideas thrown in, but the idea of sign language causing the two strangers to discover a deeper emotional connection really elevated the scene to being the most moving in the entire movie.

i'm more touched by the fact he didn't use force to get what he needed; angel could not really do anything to stop alex. here's a guy who doesn't really have much of anything, giving what he does have. also, when he asks him what his name is. that seemed to touch a part of angel, like very few people cared to know what it was and here's a guy (albeit with a firearm =) asking. i found a tear rolling down the side of my cheek at the end of the scene.

What adds to the beauty of this scene besides the acting and lines here is also the location. The sun going down on an almost barren environment. A slight wind. Many countries have their own sign language, however the language between countries may be very similar. American Sign (ASL) is very similar to French Sign due to the "inventor" (Gallaudet) of ASL basing it off of French sign (langue des signes française/LSF). In this movie they're using Mexican sign (lengua de señas mexicana/LSM). While it has some similarities to ASL (both being based off LSF), it is it's own language, like how spoken English and German are very similar but are nonetheless unique. LSM is a different language than Spain sign (Lengua de Signos Española/LSE). There is as much a universal sign language as there is a universal spoken one. @@jamesbrown5262 This is a really tricky one because in bigger countries like the US, China, and Russia, the main sign language is broken up to "accents." In the US, theres the East, Midwest, West, and the South. Its how deaf people can tell where another deaf person is from just by signing. It is amazing and remarkable. The East is quicker and really fast signing, the South is different and slow, the West is simpler and slow, and the Midwest is a combo of all three. Other countries do adopt other nations language, but they take it and add their native culture into it. Like in Africa. The French Sign Language entered the french colonies in Africa, and those colonies took it, and added some bits of their native culture to it.
