Short & sweet, but again GM Danya stepping through the reasoning (instead of the robotic “if this do that”) adds lots of value.🙏

You're the best! I've learned so much from your style. Hikaru, Levy and not so much "Eric the Trickster" are OK, but YOU are easily the best youtuber to learn from! Also, when you and Hess host a tournament it is GOLD! THANK YOU From a 75 yr old who has never played better or understood more deeply many aspects heretofore "hidden"! Aloha

Hikaru is a stronger player but doesn't explain his moves very well. It doesn't help much to watch him blitz out 5 moves in 10 seconds.

Curious, what elo are you at and did you only start playing/learning at 75 years old?

I really appreciate, that you put in the intro not emotional moments to bait people for action, but instead something very thoughtful and chess-improving.

What's the variation against the french he is mentioning? Sounds like "Gienatto", does anyone have a link for it?
@cpf25662 жыл бұрын
It's an unofficial nickname referring to his friend Peter Giannatos. See my above comment or watch the 2200 elo Advance French speedrun episode. I'm sure it's also been in at least another couple of speedrun videos as well as that one.
@cameronhendricks59673 жыл бұрын
Danya what is the Giannatos variation against the french defense? I found the master it would be named after, but don't know what that would be
@SterlingScreencasts3 жыл бұрын
Same question thanks!
@cpf25662 жыл бұрын
It's an unofficial nickname for a line as Daniel and Peter are friends. It's a normal Advance French 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 and then when Black plays 3...c5 iirc it's 4.Nf3 instead of the main 4.c3 defending with a pawn. He's definitely discussed it in a few past videos. Try the 2200 elo "Advance French" masterclass episode, that should be one of them.

When you start a speedrun and get a win streak you get extra elo in an attempt to get to to where you should be, faster. I think you're gaining like 24 elo per win, and when not on a streak you get around 9. It would be nice to see you in these elo brackets for longer than 4 games.

They just blunder...learn where your pieces should be, take note of your common blunders and work on avoiding them - end of story. His speedruns become more useful when people can actually play 15+ moves without being badly behind already
@chrisbeaudoin98183 жыл бұрын
@@ChessJourneyman yeah it was really eye opening for me when i realized how little of a difference there is between 800s and 1400s. They both blunder pieces, the latter just do it a bit less. I like to think i'm different at 1600 but deep down I know i'm not
@ChessJourneyman3 жыл бұрын
@@chrisbeaudoin9818 I started as a low 800 losing in 5 moves to tactics. Learned a system, hit 1k. Learned to avoid the most obvious blunders - 1.1k. Learned the queen can snipe my hopping knights on the flanks and such - 1.2k. Learned not to lose pawns stupidly and avoided walking into bad pins and such - steady climb to 1.6k. Improved my opening theory knowledge - 1.8k. Improved the theory further, focused on seeing more tactics - 2k+ There is basically no difference in knowledge between 1200-1600, it's just a matter of figuring out your basic oversights and reducing them.
