Jerry seemed to always be running out of time (probably has lots to do with his taking time to explain everything verbally to us) but somehow managed to win at the last minute... literally the last minute. Always so fun and educational to watch one of this games!

Every time I play the Najdorf: White gets activity for his pieces and a big attack on the kingside, black is about to get mated and it looks completely hopeless... then white gets mated.

+ienjoyapples lol...definitely sharp. It's certainly an opening that turns quite time sensitive.

+ChessNetwork Hello Jerry! I play the Najdorf myself and after 7.Qd2 you should look at 7. ..h6! because White cannot (or shouldn't) play 8.Bh4 due to 8. ..Nxe4! winning a pawn.

For future reference, 7. Qd2 is q well know inaccrate move from white, because after 7. ... h6 8. Bh4 Nxe4 is good for black.

Super late comment but I have been playing the Najdorf a lot and I hate Bg4, but thanks to this video alone I feel a lot more confident. You have a real talent for thinking out loud that is unique to any other content creator. So you have a moral obligation to keep making more!!! Thanks Jerry.

I enjoyed this video - and, as stated below in one of the comments, the sound of your voice added to that experience. BTW one of my cats fell asleep next to my notebook, possibly calmed down by your voice, which, I believe, could be considered a compliment.

Nice game. Felt like chess rather than mouse sprinting. Blitz and bullet get you this adrenaline rush but how can you not enjoy this smooth feeling after you outplayed someone at longer time controls?

"There was quite some resistance there in the ending..." You were playing someone rated higher than you (and you were commenting the whole while). Of course there was some resistance! I think it was you who did an excellent job of resisting! Some of these higher rated players excel at keeping the clock alive using the increment and are quite tough to beat even when they are down material. I watch many John Bartholomew videos and he frequently wins in that fashion. I guess a win is a win but winning on time when one has the inferior position doesn't seem like such a great accomplishment from my perspective. But you were up a queen, bishop and three pawns! Congrats!

I may be mistaken, but white has a strange set up for Bg5. I'm trying to find some games with f3, but it seems to be a rare continuation. g5 Bishop is blocking white's pawn, and didn't white craved for a couple of tempi during the attack? P.S. and now in the analysis Be3 is marked ?!. It's like an English attack with a tempo down.

Its been a while since one of these videos. Really enjoyed it. On a sidenote, I saw the computer suggest Nf2 after pushing the f6 pawn, I think the idea is f6-Nf2-Ng3-h5 open up the H file. Not sure if white has enough time but interesting idea.
@letownia
@letownia 8 жыл бұрын
Concerning the F6 push (that you said was an inaccurate suggestion by the computer), maybe the reasoning behind it was that both of white's knights were only 2 moves away from G3. Suddenly black has no option but to exchange and white's pawns can start pushing once again.
@Radiphus
@Radiphus 8 жыл бұрын
Maybe the idea of the computer suggesting f6 @ 40:45 was to take away the g7 square from the knight and then have it challenged from the f4 square by the white knight on the d file. Then the white bishop (after it recaptures on f4), queen and rook (both on the d file) would be converging on the d6 square.
@timotheeastier249
@timotheeastier249 8 жыл бұрын
+Radiphus I also believe that f6 is designed to inconvenience the knight on h5 that would look a bit out of play.
@garys5175
@garys5175 8 жыл бұрын
Radiphus I was thinking that after white's f6 move and with the black knight moving to h5, if white gets knight to f4, the black knight just exchanges on f4. Then the pawn structure in front of the black king looks locked down and in favor of black.
@garys5175
@garys5175 8 жыл бұрын
On further thought... doing this without sight of the board. White could push h5 now that the black knight is gone and the black kingside could be forced open. Might work.

11:50 You said that if you're farther away from direct rook connection (your 2 moves versus his 0 moves) you don't want to open up files.
@ChessNetwork
@ChessNetwork 8 жыл бұрын
+Levi “When will we want wantons” Quickburger5000 There are other pieces of criteria here, and as with any general principle there are exceptions. Note one file closes and another opens with that capture. Note also that we are looking for avenues of attack towards the enemy king in opposite sides castling situations such as this.

Very interesting to hear your thought processes. Speaking of the Najdorf, I recently witnessed a very nice positional approach against this opening, where there was no opposite side castling, followed by a race-to-mate. The game I'm thinking of is the following: www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1820027, played by a 15-year old girl in the us closed championship (women's section). Just thought I'd share..

+Milad Ibrahim To e4 Jerry historically plays e5, a Karo-Cann, or a French. He responds with g6 or the Pirc both as frequently as he plays a Sicilian. I understand why he'd shy away from the sharpest and most theoretically studied opening, especially when he plays bullet, so I'm certainly knocking him for it. But he plays the Sicilian very infrequently.

@Uerdue
@Uerdue 8 жыл бұрын
+pwner5012 White can just block the check with 33. Rc2. The point of 32. ... Qb4+ is to get the queen closer and only then trade rooks on c1. Once the rooks are traded, Ra1-a2 will be much stronger. So, the line would run 32. ... Qb4+ 33. Kd1 (otherwise white just loses the rook on c1) 33. ... Rxc1+ 34. Kxc1 Ra1+ and now if 35. Kc2 Ra2+ wins the queen, and if 35. Kb2 Qa3+ 36. Kc3 (36. Kc2 Qc1#) 36. ... Qc5+ 37. Kd2 (37. Kb2 Qc1#) 37. ... Qc1+ 38. Ke2 Ra2+ does also win the queen (as well as probably mating soon). Now I'm not expecting anyone to even calculate sthg like this in an obviously winning position, esp. in time trouble. But I was surprised that Jerry missed the "free" move to improve the queen's position with 32. ... Qb4+, which basically transposes to the game, but with a much more active black queen.
