As a sicilian I can honestly say that i couldn't understand most of he was saying without reading subtitles. There are so many different variations of sicilian, so many different accents, words, pronounciations, tones, it's not even funny. The sicilian they speak in the game seems mostly palermitan (the stereotypical mafia accent basically), but I'm not sure where metatron's sicilian is from. I'm from around the south eastern tip of siciliy and mine is one of the softest, laid-back variations of the dialect and it's so weird hearing the same dialect from other cities, they almost sound caricatural to me. Oh and of course it changes from town to town, so even a town 10 minutes from yours will have its own differences, (pronounciation, different words, tonalities, accents and so on) and almost everyone will be able to tell from which town you're from just by hearing you speak a few words.

One thing to note if you ever revisit this, at 12:24 when you build a farm, you're right that it uses the "builder" line, but if you were to send a villager to work on an already created farm you would hear a different "farmer" line that might be more appropriate. There's also unique villager lines for repairing damaged buildings/units and for shore fishing and it would be cool to hear your response to these as well. Also it'd be really interesting to hear your take on the King unit's voice lines, you'd have to start up a Regicide game to hear them though but that'd be cool. What a blast from the past! I need to get my Mom into this game again. Especially with the new campaigns, which were her favorite. She'd play on medium, but kind of handicap herself because she could not stand to lose any more than maybe 3 men. She loved slaughtering the enemy and seeing/hearing them die, but her own troops? Those were under HER command and she would not let them die. She mined LOTS of stone to build castles offensively. Always brought a tear to my eye when she figured out castles were both defensive AND offensive military buildings. Most of her fights were sieges, as was common. I, on the other hand played with my friends so major field battles where we'd lose half our troops were common =) This vid, I'm for sure gonna download the Age of Empires 2 complete. I believe there is a new campaign for the Sicilians as well, which explores some of their history - so if you want to play them a bit more, this might be a fun way to combine history and gameplay!

It's so nice to see you so happy about hearing your language! I'm from Quebec, I have the same reaction when I hear my accent in anything!

That's wonderful :D *internal screaming over the fact Byzantines still speak Latin instead of Greek*

@V & Z Magnus true, Latin isn't wrong per say but the version of the empire shown in the game has already embraced Greek language and culture

Thats exactly me hearing polish in the recent patch. I was so giddly I had to call my mom and show her "hey remember that game from 20 years ago I played? Now they speak polish"

There's another incoming expansion coming soon, Dawn of the Dukes. Eastern European themed, but they haven't revealed if they're adding new civs with that yet or if it'll just be campaigns. There are already a few East European civs in the game. Also, about half of the civs now were added after the Conquerors days. Most of the classic civs also received various balance tweaks which was pretty cool - Teutons get bonus melee armor on all melee units and Persians can upgrade their crossbows to cost no gold for example.

My mom is from Sicily but I was born in the north. When we went to visit my family in Sicily it was like going to another world. I'm proud of my Sicilian origins but they are so different from the north Italians. Somebody talking fast in Sicilian is almost impossible to understand even if I do understand some words in Sicilian. But it is a beautiful place. A lot of history there.

I love his reaction, Sicilian sounds similar to Spanish, but they’re both Romance languages so it’s expected. I reacted the same in Age of Empires 3 when I played as Spain. It’s fun hearing the tongue of your ancestors in a game.
