Whenever I’ve used salt bath I measure one tablespoon per gallon for about 30 mins. I agree lots of various combinations and never sure if salt bath has any internal benefits but can’t harm the fish. Just a pity they can’t talk and tell you what’s wrong so have to keep guessing. Hope you get it sorted.

You are on the right track, most of the time its caused by over feeding or too high protein at low temp, was the fish a big eater? if so stop feeding it and carry on with the epsom salts then feed only low protein for a while but it could be something more sinister.

Not sure if its relevant Kev, But I had a goldfish like that several years ago and it turned out to be constipated some one told me to feed it frozen peas and it was fine the next day. went on for years after.

Hi, I had a problem similar to yours, koi lying on his side. Rang Dr Paula Reynolds at Lincolnshire Koi, the dosage was 1 teaspoon per pint for at least 2 hours if tolerance allows. She suspected gut enzyme blockage, also to feed peas and live earthworms to help with gut. I bathed my koi on 26th June, fingers crossed he's been ok. If your koi is a female she recommends 2 teaspoons per pint. Hope this helps.

Hi Kevin, just read the comment about trying to feed it peas but others getting them first, could you not net it and put it in your biggest bowl and see if it will eat them while bowled, stay safe. Rob.

I had something similar and it was a swollen swim bladder, presumably from a parasite. I treated it with PP. The other thing I was thinking is Costia due to the gill inflammation. I've heat treated in a quarantine tank for this. Of course, a scrape would pick up this.

Often gill flukes are so deep you can't get to them without an autopsy. Assuming water quality is good, tempting to feed a sick fish separately with more garlic to build up their health and then start treating for gill fluke. If the red goes away after a few months then you know it was gill fluke.

Yes i had to take out and put in a bowl but that is easier with a comet.

Magnesium salt is very safe. Pretty easy to tell when it's too much because when you taste the water it will go from soft to a sour taste.

Thanks for watching and asking. Sadly the fish died after 6 months. I believe it was an internal issue.

Thanks for watching. Egg bound is normally the big cause but also internal issues have the same outcome.

Hi... I'm currently having this issue with my koi... It's been like this for 3 days now, been doing the epsom salt soak for 20 to 30 mins but no major changes as yet... Only thing I've noticed now is it seems to have lock jaw and his mouth won't close at all... Any suggestions on what I may be able to do to offer some relief?
