That is one of my most favorite "throwaway" lines in all of vocal music! Totally gratuitous and absolutely necessary. Of course it's an alto line (and, of course, I was an alto)!

Who knows but some not very distance age, tiring of orchestral sonorities and operatic romances, may find again in such music as Palestrina’s a depth of feeling, a profound and placid flow of harmony, better fitted to express the soul of man cleansed of pride in reason and power, and standing again humble and fearful before the engulfing infinite. _Will Durant, Story of Civilization VI (The Reformation), p. 783

When God created the whole universe in six days, at each day He said: This is good... but on the last day, when He contemplated the whole creation together, He said: everything is too good. Beauty is the diversity in unity because God is three but One... and He is the essence of Beauty so to speak.

Aw, C'mon. Are you offering to jet the "G6" in your "G6" to some more amiable acoustic? I love hearing Owain Park's long-lived group in all the places they sing. My favorite in that vein is hearing them sing Howell's "Here is the Little Door", in a nearly dead room. They are excellent because they hear each other, and the room, and adjust.

@jackmorrison73793 жыл бұрын
A representation (modern) of the BVM ascending (assumption) to glory in heaven. It is the Lady Chapel of the cathedral. The Puritans smashed out the stained glass, and scratched off the painted figures that once occupied the red smudges in the wall beyond the altar.
@peterpeecock77212 жыл бұрын
@@jackmorrison7379 A curious aside - Oliver Cromwell, of Puritan fame, lived in Ely for a time, and there is an old house known as Cromwell's House, not far from the cathedral.

Gesualdo Six is always outstanding. But who schmaltzed-up the altar and reredos of the Lady Chapel at Ely ??? Typical modern lack-of-taste and a desecration to a stately old cathedral. A pox upon whomever is responsible.
