For years, video games were regarded as just another form of mindless entertainment, devoid of meaning and entirely mechanical. Today, video games are significant cultural commodities and an acknowledged art form because of the contributions of video game giants. Watch as Sid Meier, the game designer and developer behind the Civilization series, discusses the tales of his video game pioneering in a sneak peek of his upcoming book release.
SID MEIER’S MEMOIR!: A Life in Computer Games (W. W. Norton & Company) takes fans through the life and legacy of one of the most influential creative forces in video game history. The memoir will dive into the challenges he faced and how he influenced the strategy game genre we know today. As part of New York Comic Con’s Metaverse, Sid Meier will also be joined in conversation by Soren Johnson (Lead Designer, Civilization IV), as they reminisce about the joys of creation, the excitement of expanding possibilities, and the very heart of playing video games-and of being human.

I'm 39 years old and I would be scared to look at the number of hours of my life that I have spent playing and enjoying games made by Sid Meier!

I'm late to the game, but I just finished listening to the audiobook of "Sid Meier's Memoir!". It was great! This interview is the cherry on top.

One of his first and still amazing games is Crusade in Europe. That game should be updated. It might be the best concept for a real time game. You had quality of units, gain quality through experience, different movement based on terrain, weather, unit type and experience and the best part that made it repayable. You gave an order and it would take time to move based on formation and the elements listed previously. This game was not Command and Conquer rush. I just downloaded it again from Abandonware and I keep finding myself playing it over and over.

Civ 3 is nearly very good but I miss spy's caravans free tech for capturing cities money for capturing cities and difficult or impossible curruption making it silly to try to capture the whole world. Anyone else think these need to be reinstated ?

The interviewer should ask questions and not simply tell us what he knows or thinks he knows.
