I know it's depressing and morbid to say but the fact he made it to 21 is a miracle. Sid Vicious was someone who was literally born with zero chance at life. It's a miracle he managed to make something out of himself. Only thing I hate is how he and Nancy are romanticized like they're some punk rock version of Romeo and Juliet. They were NOT. When you think of "toxic relationship", Sid and Nancy's is one of the first that come to my mind.

Lol you are all talking like he is a loser...He is the damn Mozart, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jordan of punk rock and one of the most iconic faces of rocknroll! Someone would be a billionaire in todays music industry with an impact like his.His mom, his girlfriend, drug addiction, tendency to violence but also being fragile, style, attitude, didn't even see the 27 club, lack of discipline to learn an instrument, so on...These are all made him the greatest punk rock artist, the reason we watch this documentary. He is the definition of punk rock. Not everything in this life should be evaluated with norms of "what's good", " what's bad", especially something like punk rock. And yes Sid and Nancy is as iconic as Romeo Juliet

Around 1996 Sid's mother confessed to the press that she gave Sid the shot that killed him. She said there was nowhere for him to go, he knew that too, and he wanted to be with Nancy. He would've got a long prison time, and she said something like, "where would he go after the Pistols and punk was over? He could've never done anything like Johnny Rotten and start a new band and new music (with PIL) Sid's a punk." And he was a self destructive punk, you can hear him say in interviews a few years before dying that he (and John) would be dead within 2 years. There's many stories of people who where there when Sid violently attacked people, and according to them he could have been dead or in jail a long time before..
@belindamartinez39853 жыл бұрын
I'd heard about that too, not that I agree with Sid's mum. For example: do you think Sid really still wanted to be with Nancy by that time? He already had a new girlfriend and had got one pretty fast after Nancy's death. Besides, Sid's upbringing is the first to blame for his self-destructive behaviour. If only social services had intervened in that home, things might have turned out very differently for Sid.

Luckily someone in the car knew CPR until the ambulance could arrive with Narcan. I'll never forget how he looked in my eyes in a daze as if he was just pulled back from death, dead man walking, how he just looked like he wasn't supposed to be alive. That's the day I started to truly hate heroin. Party days are over. I'm getting a lot of help and counseling as well as have a family of my own now. I've lost too many friends in the past to that shit and it just wastes you all the way down to the soul. We are lucky to have the treatments we have these days that saved my life and so many others. Goddamn, he never even had a chance. The universe is a cruel place, because there are so many people like Sid. I'm 21 years old and fortunate enough to have been raised by a loving mom basically my whole life. To have the person you trust and love most in life also bring that much pain and dependancy into your life is something that could never be undone. Especially when that person feeds you the only relief to the pain whenever you wanted. What a shame that he had the absolute worst of circumstances. If he had any real lifeline or positive influence, maybe he could've turned out alright

that's the point. People come from a vast array of starting points, yet everyone assumes all persons should end up well-adapted to society naturally, when most times it's the most unnatural thing to expect. THAT's why we have psychopaths and rebellion, it's because there are DIFFERENCES in starting points.

Honest question: What do you miss about him? He was a complete dumpster fire and had no musical talent. What did he offer to anyone? As a musician from a family of drug addicts, I have _tons_ of empathy and sympathy for the guy. My mom got my brothers hooked on drugs, so I understand Sid deeply in many ways. ..but as a musician, I just don't understand what there is to "miss". What did he actually contribute? Many of my musical idols were train wrecks who died from drugs - and I miss them. ..but they actually gave me something to miss. IMHO Sid was just an edge lord who couldn't even play his bass. All he was was image.
@savinghistory642 Жыл бұрын
@@clicheguevara5282 I hope I can find the words to help you understand. It was the late 70's. Kids still lived under their parents rules. There were consequences for breaking those rules. Most homes had a father who made sure things went along smoothly. Doing well in school was not an option, two parent homes were more stable, police were the authorities, teachers were the authorities, parents were the authorities and we toed the line. When we got together and listened to the pistols, we felt free to let go of all the things we had to obey when around the authorities. We smoked pot, drank Boones Farm wine and acted out our version of feeling free and invincible as we perceived the Pistols to be. We did not commit any crimes or bother anyone else as we were usually somewhere on the lake away from anyone else. Then we went home to our safe lives. It was an escape. As an adult, different rules control my life and I have different obligations. I guess I miss my youth and the Pistols were a big part of it. On the other hand, I do not miss John Lennon at all. He was the ultimate phony. Does Yoko still keep a floor full of their furs? Just full of himself. I especially love the Queen;s 25th Jubilee gift the Pistols gave her. God Save the Queen by the pistols was the second song I taught my grandson when he was 4 (after the National Anthem). He is now 28 and still enjoys them. I may not have given you a satisfactory answer but I miss the freedom of youth and the Pistols represent that to me. Since he died at 21 he is frozen at that age. I get older. He never will.

True. Sid was talented. I tried to do the "Duck-Lip" snarl in the mirror and its not easy to do. Only Elvis did it a well as Sid. Also try to jump up into the air, kick your legs apart and land, all while playing the bass guitar. Not a simple feat. In one interview Sid says that one night, while playing the bass, a broken bottle zipped past him nearly taking his head off with it. Some punk-rockers had it rough back then. Not all fame and glamour. We have regressed since as a society, though. If I tried to wear a swastika shirt like Sid did, I would catch, "Holy-Hell", from my family and friends for trying to make a statement. When asked why they dressed and looked the way they did?, Sid and Nancy replied, "BECAUSE WE LIKE IT." The Duck-Lip is one of Sid Vicious' signature looks. They had more, "balls", back then than most people have today. I love it. R.I.P. Sid.

Mental health is no joke. When you compound the illness of a drug addiction on top of what he has gone through in his life and has experienced and the pain that he carries, nobody without a mental illness would be able to even live another Day but those of us with these type of sicknesses have to drag on. We often tend to love others more than our own selves. That's what keeps us putting one foot in front of the other and sometimes that's all we're capable of doing. It's not fun to be a drug addict or an alcoholic. Most people could not walk three feet in our shoes, let alone a mile.

A shallow grave deep in the woods of Northern Maine by the hand of someone looking for revenge for whatever reason. The old man and my bro were the best of friends and partners in crime. It seems a relationship like that between a parent and child never will end well.. i m 39 and clean for the first time in my life as is my dad at 62 years of age. It's sadly very commonly the case that kids "inherit" such destructive habits from their parents. Honestly, I feel that parents shouldn't be left in their own little private world without anyone checking in and caring when help is needed. There should be such thing as community. I think the Punk movement was in large part a reaction against an uncaring, money-driven society. The youth felt disconnected.

He successfully created a Rock and Roll persona for himself. He invented a new dance ‘The Pogo’ As McLaren pointed out the audience were mesmerised by him. He could have ditched The Pistols, formed a new band and been widely popular, Unfortunately some poor judgment getting with Nancy and taking heroin was his undoing. Still massive intrigue surrounding him.

A good read is “And I don’t want to live this life” written by Deborah Spungen, Nancy’s mother. That girl was messed up from day one, her and Sid wre were a perfect storm, they deserved each other. It was sad, the impact that this relationship had on the Spungen family.

That book is filled with lies and exaggerations, according to several of Nancy's friends. Her mother was a wack job - pumping your three-month-old infant full of Phenobarbital - a drug used for lethal injection in some states - because she's crying too loud? You'd go to jail for that today.

@@Jae_hX Dude, he was like 21. The OP merely made an accurate statement. Look at actual footage of Sid, did he look in his 40s to you? He clearly looked a guy his 20s regardless of his addiction. Also, with depressants such as heroin in particular, it's actually known to stop the individual from looking older in many cases. My friends sister for example was a heroin addict from 20 to 25 and she's 29 now and literally looks no older than 19. It's more Meth and crack that make the individual look older, stimulants drugs like those. Depressant painkiller opiates like heroin tend to do the opposite.

Thank you for this really brilliant documentary about Sid. I never thought that Sid and Nancy were a punk romance, but she just wanted someone of the Sex Pistols and cause Johnny didn't want her. Next one was Sid. Already in a toxic relationship with another woman- his mum, who introduced him to drugs, there comes Nancy and brings him straight onto heroin. She was toxic as hell, too. He never stood a chance. Not knowing if it was him that killed Nancy, the break up of his band, the fear maybe going back to Rykers. To much for the gentle soul he actually was. But his mother didn't have the right to make this fatal decision for him In the end-Sid is in a much better place now. God bless him xxx 🙏

I read the book which Nancy`s mother wrote. It was worth the read. Nancy`s mother was not angry at Sid, since she knew that Nancy wanted to die, and begged people to help her do so. Poor Nancy was tormented from the moment she was born to a loving family which tried their best to help her, to no avail. Sid and Nancy actually loved each other. Don`t ask. Find the book and it will answer all your questions. Very sad all around.

I don't think Sid killed Nancy. He was too messed up to do it, too drugged. There were plenty of other people wandering the hotel halls off kilter who could have done it, since they weren't as incapacitated. I read Nancy's mother's book, & I recommend it. She thought there was something wrong with Nancy from Day One psychologically. She thought some people were just off, & it had nothing to do with how they were raised. Nancy's mother suffered a great, great deal throughout Nancy's life.
@nadyarossi51022 жыл бұрын
I have always believed that Michael Mourra, aka "Rockets Redglare" & a fellow drug dealer, killed Nancy and stole the thousands of dollars Sid had lying around in that seedy hotel room. Sid was too zonked on Tuinals to have done anything but sleep.

SId’s story and that of many other opiate users especially those coming out of prison is why Narcan should be freely available in every country - it’s a life saver and cheap. For those who don’t know Narcan is an agonist that instantly reverses the effects of opiates. Yes, the user loses their ‘taste’ temporarily, but they don’t die. However, depending on the dose of opiates the person needs to be watched after Narcan as the dope can come on again.

The problem is that if you make naloxone widely available, people will be even more inclined to OD, given that they can rely on naloxone as an insurance. Addicts lose, forget and misplace things all the time. So, I don't know if it would have an overall positive effect.
