I remember learning in another interview that the Indian film-going audience is 75% male. I think that goes a long way into answering the question of why the film-going audience is not a larger percentage of the population as a whole: if you have the female half of the country stuck at home/home + job because all their time and energy is taken up taking care of the household, they are not going to go to the theatres. They might watch movies on video or streaming, perhaps even while doing the housework, but going out of your way to go to the cinema is out of the question. Unless women are freed of the burden of being almost exclusively responsible for housework, good luck trying to raise your theatrical viewership

Sorry Vanita, I just couldn't handle your interruptions. Let your guest complete their sentences and let out their thoughts instead of you trying to fill them up. I understand your curiosity and your comfort level with the guest but it would be great if you could just add a bit of a breather in the conversation.

Such an awesome interview. Siddharth is so smart and I relate to him given his background in brand management and Cpg (similar to mine). Loved that he transitioned into the movie business and has been so successful Seems like he’s got his head and heart in the right place. Thanks for the insight on the 8 week window between streaming vs theatrical release. Didn’t realize it was a set window. Now I can better decide which movies to go watch in theatre vs which ones to wait to watch on ott

A movie with A lister start cast in India costs 300 crs & cost of Hero/Heroin & main support cast is nearly 75% and cost of making and marketing is rest. However in hollywood cost of actors is just 10% of overall cost.

Hollywood, it’s the brand that’s more emphasized than the actor where as in India, it’s the actor who’s more popular than the brand.
@naveenbangalore362
@naveenbangalore362 Ай бұрын
@@raja-jl9os Not always true, there are some movies with ip like avengers/Mission impossible etc that are based it's own IP and brand but there are many without IP brand example Oppenhiemer that even with A lister royalty was made with huge budget and all actors fee was just 10% of total cost. If we apply that logic all Singam and Houseful etc IP based movies with it's own universe should not spend more than 25% of overall cost on actor fees then chances of turning profit will increase.

There are only two films which made a mark globally of India (not limited to few countries) in a very very big way in recent times that the world is aware of. One is Slumdog Millionaire(british production film - poor representation of India) and the other is RRR(indian production film - strong representation of India). RRR had the best chance to go past sucess of Dangal in china because chinese people have similar hatred towards Britishers as any other country in the world, chinese people could have connected very strongly with the emotions of RRR more than Dangal's for sure. Dangal only worked in China apart from India so it is not considered a huge success globally as earlier films. Looking at the current and future prospects of Indian film industry it looks like south indian films are going to go head-to-head & toe-to-toe with international films especially Telugu industry and bollywood might see the sunset if not awoken early(since they are complacent in their efforts)... Hope all indian film industries realize their true potential from amalgamation of all into one talent pool and they can even beat Hollywood. Next promising films from India surely are #Kalki & #SSMB29. S S Rajamouli should be a case study for other filmmakers in India & world for his ability to penetrate other regions with each of his modern films going from one state to entire south region in India, then with Bahubali going into Japan i.e. East part of the world and with RRR going East to West. Looks like this time he might conquer every part of the world with #SSMB29. Waiting with bated breath for that to witness... S S Rajamouli is truly a deadly combo of James Cameron + Steven Spielberg. Huge Fan♥

@amodhsaxena6103
@amodhsaxena6103 17 күн бұрын
Its a bit of an idiotic question at this point of per capita screen count etc. What is per capita income of Indians, Vs people in the US and China? Why even compare with them. Standard of living is poor and cinema or multiplex movie watching is a luxury. So given we have low levels of income, people willing to shell out on cinemas will be low. Based on that, we will have low screen count. Which country does this lady live in? Does she not know that non-urban population in India is 90%? Useless question. 50% of 1.5 billion is not the addressable population, you guys are wrong. Cinema enthusiast will hardly be 20% of that, and cinema literate, well better not even go there.

Film Companion and English speaking elites still live in their LaLa Land... These guys still thinking that by speaking Words like Patriarchy, Masculinity has got to do anything with the movies.. Bollywood industry is still greenlighting and pushing mediocre stars like Ananya, Sara Ali Khan by giving repeated chances when their movies and web series are failing.. These guys are not able to swoon the hindi speaking states in India and going bombastic on conquering the NRI living outside India.. I have not seen any single actor apart from Amitabh Bachchan who could speak Hindi perfectly the rest of the actors are from Punjabi Speaking regions... By blaming young actors who don't know Hindi and over pushing them won't make them stars overnight. Meanwhile in Malayalam movies actors speak Malayalam in interviews.. Rather than claiming why the movies here sucks concentrate on actors should start speaking Hindi so that the interview could be understood by everyone in North India.. Don't blame the audience blame yourself.. Ask your talent to learn to speak Hindi....
