I got my first Kazoo today, and play it from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and the only reason i stop at 10 is because i didn't want to disturb my neighbors. Thanks so very much for the lessons.😊

I used to play in a wind band and sat next to the saxophonist. I never realised how much a kazoo could sound like a sax! I guess it makes sense because the source of the sound is enhanced by a vibrating gland, which is similar to a vibrating reed. I now really want to get a kazoo and tell my missus I can play the sax... Get her to close her eyes and... 😎

That's a very good imitation of a sax, amazing job. If you recorded this with reverb in the backdrop of a song or instrumental people would think it was a rea sax. I play kazoo to imitate overdriven electric guitar. One of the tricks is to cover the top of the kazoo with the hand for wha-wha effects. If both hands enclose the kazoo all kinds of harmonica like filter effects can be used including a deeper wha wha effect. The right hand fingers surround the large end creating a controllable horn like bell so lips never contact the kazoo. The left little finger closes off the small hole at the other end of the kazoo so that pressure builds up and inflates the diaphragm giving it a much more intense tone with less buzz. A person then projects their voice operatically into the kazoo full force as if it were a close microphone. This can even be done until the voice breaks (Janis Joplin used this trick to sing chords) at which point chords can be produced. One can imitate a great deal of what electric guitarists do with big amps, but its a kazoo so it sounds funny. One thing that is not funny about the kazoo is that it is an instrument that can teach aspiring instrumentalists exactly how they should think of their adopted instruments, as substitutes or extensions of the human voice. That includes drums and cymbals and percussion which can boom and breath like a voice. I think all students should start with kazoo as children to get this message across, your instrument is your voice.
