I am so proud that there are still Indians like Siddique Kappan who is not only unfazed by this terrible miscarriage of justice of 800 days jail without trial or bail, but instead of bitter feelings, wants to keep doing his job as a journalist. Truly such an inspiration. In the meantime, we should introspect how collectively allowed since emergency, another situation where activists who are not even politically affiliated are major targets of government harassment and oppressions. And of course, the old problem of having a system that allows for such denial of fundamental rights, that also gives no consequence to the people responsible for this malicious imprisonment. There are still so many activists in jail on these false charges being harassed by bjp govt... things look bleak but hope for brave people to keep fighting.

Police walon ke dekhkar mujhe kabhi surakshit mehsoos nahi hota. Na mujhe iss desh ki nyay vyvastha par bharosa hai ki woh peedit vyakti ko jald se jald nyay dilaane ke liye kaam karti hai. Ye sab luck ki baat hai ki koi faisla aapke haq mein jald sunaa diya jaaye. Sunaa bhi diya gaya toh koi guarantee nahi ki dusri adalat uss faisle ko khaarij nahi kar degi. Mere bachche bade hokar kahin aur basna chaahen toh mujhe afsos nahi hoga ki kisi aur desh ki naagrikta le li. Samay rehte ve nikal jaayen to behtar hoga. Nahi toh videshi sanskriti aur system mein adapt karne mein dikkat aati hai.

Frankly, Nishant, I don't think police in general are a problem. My belief is that it is the administration. They give the orders for people to follow. Yes, on ethical and moral grounds, one may choose to refuse following those orders but we have all seen what happens to such gutsy officers, haven't we?
