Great video, tricky to think of examples! Some that come to mind: The Replacements 'Bastards of Young', Pet Shop Boys 'It Couldn't Happen Here', Buffalo Springfield 'Flying on the ground is wrong'

What a huge topic - open to much grumbling! I was surprised not to see these Beatles tracks appear on your list: Within You Without You, Martha My Dear & Here Comes The Sun

Very interesting James and this has got me thinking. A few criteria I could apply to this, belters is one but maybe also the relationship with the side 1 closing song too perhaps. I'll have my list ready in a few years, cheers Dale

One or two great songs highlighted here..Feel Flows is incredible, Robin Pecknold of The Fleet Foxes commented it was a favourite and highly influential. Chocolate Girl is a great song and probably my favourite of theirs along with Real Gone Kid. I need to listen to Frank, I don't think I've ever heard it.

Hi James, this is a really interesting thread. I’m a bit of a sequencing obsessive so this is a great idea. Sweet Virginia is a great S2 opener I agree, excellent track and I bet that went down well live. Spanish Bombs, so good, love it. Mike

The first thing that came to my mind was Side 2 of Joni Mitchell's "Hejira," which begins with the epic (8:40) journey on the Staten Island Ferry to buy herself a mandolin. One of the great songs about romantic disillusion. Also, "Hejira" has one of my favorite album covers, a black and white image that perfectly captures the music inside. I have it framed on my wall alongside three other great b&w covers: Elvis Costello's "King of America" (one of your picks), Bowie's "Heroes" and "The Ramones."

Fantastic video James; really good choices there with ‘Feel Flows’ and I absolutely love ‘Skylarking; it’s in my Top 5 albums of all time and ‘Earn Enough For Us’ is one of my fav tracks on that album 💙 I agree; I think LC gets a lot stronger as the album progresses within Side 2 and ‘Spanish Bombs’ is an awesome track on there bud. I love the ‘Frank’ album from Squeeze which I consider to be underrated James; I actually be interested in a video from you where you do a review or revisiting of that album perhaps? 😀🙏🍿🎸🎶

Someone the other day was making me think of transitions between album sides, and how important the sequencing of tracks is to maintaining interest when the LP is flipped over. Something that became less of a concern in the CD era. Have it in mind to revisit London Calling (I love Lost In The Supermarket too) and Surf's Up now, gosh it has been a long time since I've listened to those. By the way what's the deal with copies of Surf's Up in the UK not having ringwear, John was showing a similar one recently as well, over here the ringwear is nearly ubiquitous on every one I come across, almost like they came from the factory that way lol. Cheers!

I can't remember now where I picked up my copy of Surf's Up...I think it was a charity shop. Interesting the way that side 1 closers often lack the required punch when listened to on CD - always a bit anticlimactic to just hear the first song on side 2 starting without having first made the effort to turn the record over. Thanks Doug!

I’ve only given this 5 minutes thought but a few more suggestions:- Bitch from Sticky Fingers I’ve Seen the Saucers from Caribou New Lace Sleeves from Trust And then some Beatles ones … Eights Days a Week from Beatles for Sale Hello Goodbye from Magical Mystery Tour Here Comes the Sun from Abbey Road Echoes from Meddle - technically correct but perhaps not in the spirit of the video 😂
