Excellent video on dialing in and fine tuning side mount drum triggers. I just recently converted my starclassic maple into a silent digital kit using the ead10 module and Yamaha triggers. the one ply heads were a nightmare especially on the kick so i got the real feel drum-tec heads you recommended and everything is precise and accurate now. thanks!

I've been trying to get into drum triggers. While the triggers are fairly cheap the drum modules are not. You wouldn't have one that you'd be willing to part with since you get all those great test models for reviews. It doesn't have to be something super fancey just didn't think it would hurt to ask since I saw you tossing one around in one video and dropping it a few times. It'll be years before I could afford one. Love the channel and find it very informative. Thanks. Keep up the good work.

You can convert a cheap acoustic drum kit by adding mesh heads and triggers to suit a cheap module. However there are entire kits available for less that £300 !!

Thanks for the helpful video! I have a Roland SPD-SX and Roland triggers for my kick and snare. The triggers are attached to mesh heads and are plugged into my SPD-SX. Both of them are having issues detecting my ghost notes. I've adjusted the sensitivity, threshold, and how tightly the triggers are attached to my drums, but I'm still having trouble triggering ghost notes. My ghost notes aren't super quiet and I bet people can play a lot quieter than I can. Are Roland's SPD-SX & Triggers unresponsive? It feels very unmusical and dynamic playing everything so hard. I have a Roland TD11K and that detects my ghost notes perfectly. Cheers for the help! Rob

I was going thru Hell with my acoustic drum triggers I got ( my drummer said it was cause it was not a good Roland drum module ) I did not believe him 100% on that one. I was getting all them Ghost trigger hits you where talking about and tried everything I could. But then I bought the Evens db one heads and that did help a lot, but still could not get it to sound like a real drum set. Then I noticed that they where barely touching the drum heads. The thing is, the ddrum CETKIT Chrome Elite Drum Trigger Pack does not have any adjustment to put more presure on the heads. They don't adjust from what I can see, and I did put them on pretty tight & hard just in case. So what I ended up doing is adding them little felt pads for like chairs, with the sticky side to the drum trigger rubber pad. Now it works perfect and no ghost notes and plays like a dream or a real drum set per say. I'm thinking they need to rebuild all triggers that can be have a adjustment to put down pressure or less pressure on the drum head. I know the red ddrum or the chrome elite drum trigger packs do not have this built into them. It's just clamp on and go, but what a pain I was going thru, this may not be the right fix, but it sure works great for my kit. Is there a down side I don't know.

After a few days I do enjoy my rt30 triggers with my td 17 module. I will say that selecting the rt 30 pad in the module didn’t work well. It barely picked up hits without a lot of adjustment. I selected pdx 100 instead for all the triggers and it worked instantly with no adjustments. Which I found to be odd

Hey Justin, great video! I'm having trouble with the play back of my ghost notes and buzz strokes. The trigger isn't picking up all of my strokes. Naturally i have adjusted the sensitivity, however because i am using a roland td-4 module i can't adjust the threshold. My question is, do i need a more advanced drum module to achieve a coherent and accurate reaction from my triggers? I am using yamaha triggers, with acoustic drum skins not mesh heads. Thanks

Hi Justin - thank you for the fantastic insights, suggestions and guidance re: trigger settings. Have you ever tried mounting triggers on the bottom / resonant head? I'm still looking at purchasing triggers and module - that's why I haven't tried it myself.

Another thing I've noticed with my DIY snare and RT30 trigger is that if I use a 3 ply head no flam sound. But a one ply like the Silent Stroke and it vibrates too much causing a flamming sound. No settings helped, so I just put foam in the drum against the head.. Works perfect now.
@MrToco325 жыл бұрын
I would go with a 2ply mesh if you can.

Was your flam sound all mushed up sounding and did it only occur every now and then? (Say 1 in 30 shots)

I have foam taped on top (silentstroke) maybe if I also foam up from inside the drum I'll eliminate all flamming?

Thank you Justin for this great video. However we have big problem. The drumer from my band bought DDrum black satin kit with internal trigers. We use it with roland td30 module. Everything works well on kik, snare and other toms except on first 8” tom. We tried to tune up and down uper head but still the signal of triger sensitivity goes only to three lights. Other trigers goes all up to “red” and works fine with every hit. Cable is New and I tried to switch cables. Still the same. What should we do? Trigger sensitivity is 8 and same on all toms and snare. I tried to bring it up but than evan sound from monitor speaker activate the triger. Question no2: The trigers mix rim and heads. For example, I play floor tom on head and module plays tones of rim or head depends of how hard we hit it. No rules which he choose. Cables are mono. Can I male module to play only one head on toms? Snare is OK.

Hey Justin tnx for all your videos I have been following for a long time , always a big help. what can I do if my snare drum rim is too low and it actually pushes my drum trigger (roland rtHR) UP - because of the bent of the rim, so it has very little contact with the mash head. I tried to change the snare drum, this has better results but still a problem. this makes very hard hits to be eliminated, as the skin doest touch the trigger

hey Justin! thanks for the video. Quick question, I am using the Octapad as my Drum Module, and using the RT30s for triggers. My hybrid kit sounds really, really good, the majority of the time! it's when I get excited and into it that when I hit harder the signal doesn't pick up. and there is no sound - I am using mesh heads. so it makes out for a very awkward hard hit, and no sound. If I hit it soft, and normal, it produces a reliable sound. But it is when I hit hard that there is no sound. I am using Exponential curves as settings (and I've tried all of them). But I don't know what the solution is to reliable sound when hitting hard - besides don't hit so hard, because that's just not the type of player I am. do you have any suggestions? I have basically the opposite problem of threshold, it seems as if, if it's too hard of a hit, the computer doesn't pick it up. Thanks man!
@ianhinrichsendrummer2113 Жыл бұрын
Hi, I'm having the same problem, it still sounds when IA hit very hard but it's a different sound AND it's way softer. Dd you ever find out what causes this. So irritating. Only my PDX 8 snare does this. (TD11KV)

I have been using the Roland RT-30 HK for toms and snare. After a little tweaking, I was able to get the triggers to work great on the rims and head for the toms BUT the snare is a whole other story. I tried the same settings as the toms and everything in between for over 2 hours and I still can't get the trigger to recognize the rim. Yes, I have tried swapping the triggers to make sure it wasn't a faulty unit. I'm using the Alisis STRIKE module. Anyone else having this problem?

Hi, I am using the RT 30 and while I am getting the triggered snare sound with single hits, but when I try to roll it is not triggering properly. Also, should I have the snare wires turned on with the real snare or does it not matter?
@jakebylsma76416 жыл бұрын
Definitely snare wires off, they're only going to make unwanted noise. Roll sounds like a mixture of threshold/sensitivity and the delay time between hits. It needs to retrigger fast enough for your stick bounces to register quickly, and also needs to be reacting sensitively enough to trigger on your soft rolls from the stick.

Just got redshot triggers and the ddrum ddti. Having a hard time picking up ghost notes even when pressing down on the trigger and the threshold is at the lowest possible. Anyone have any thoughts? It also seems to jump from moderately loud to super loud with nothing in between. Kind of frustrated with this so far. I have Evans Db One mesh heads. I have the gain up all the way and set the trigger type to PP.2. That one seems to pick up the most ghost notes and is also louder in general. Edit: It seems like there are only 6-10 velocities. Is this something with the interface, maybe my daw?

I'm having a problem with "missed hits". I've adjusted all these parameters up & down, tried different combinations, etc. I've got Roland 30-HR triggers on single ply REMO mesh heads on Yamaha acoustic shells. I feel like it has something to do with the physical position of the triggers. I'll get it all dialed and after a day or two, my harder hits are silent. Especially when doing multiple hits, like 3 or for medium hits followed by a loud hit. I've noticed if I move the trigger around the rim, it helps. And the rim height there is slightly different - so is it a height factor? I'll adjust all the lugs to match the rim height, but then a day or two later it's missing hits again. Please help.

I'm having an issue with the RT30 HR that I just cannot figure out. I'm using silentstroke on an acoustic snare and going through the spdsx. All my settings are working great. Picking up great snare rolls and ghosts but every now and then it sounds like it's double triggering on full velocity hits. Like a weird mushed up flam sound. I've ruled out the spdsx being the problem cos it never happens on those pads. Don't know what to do but it sounds so bad when it happens. Not subtle at all
