Hey guys. Hope you’re all doing well. I’m honestly really excited for this project. I decided to take the much loved slash and spread method to the next level and experiment with it on different parts of garments. In this video, I create side pleats on the side of a simple dress. I tested my patterns using calico to check for errors and it turned out great. I will most likely use a soft woven fabric to make the real dress design but I hope you guys will enjoy this tutorial ☺️

Hi Kim Dave, I recently found your channel and it has been quite helpful in teaching me as I am embarking on a journey to learn to sew. I made this dress (the first ever that I've made thanks to you) and I put a twist on the neckline to make it off the shoulder and one long sleeve and one short sleeve. Thank you very much and continue to stay blessed.

So stylish!! Are you going to do a facing for the neckline and armhole finishes or are you going to make a full lined dress?
@KimDave6 жыл бұрын
It depends, I haven’t still decided if I want to sew the dress design yet. I will most likely add simple short sleeves and facing around the neckline if I do sew the dress.

Hello..for a bodycon dress with this pattern, can I cut my bodice with my actual measurements if its a stretchy fabric?
@balazsszilvia18363 жыл бұрын
Hi Kim! Fantastic tutorial. I have a question: what do you take into consideration when you draw the curve part? I thought it was a semi-circle, but obviously not. What does it depend on how you draw it? Thanks!
@TheEmpressCouture2 жыл бұрын
For the height consideration, Start drawing from a little distance down the underarm point, and end it a little above the hip, so that the curve sits around the waist area. For the width, you can end it somewhere between the centre front and regular dart position.

Please i do understand d entire process but after getting ur pleats how do you den insert d darts cos without a dart d dress wud probably lack fitting especially for non stretchy materials. Thanks soo much for the video by the way and your bright and cheerful personality brings out the best in this tutorial
@RachaelO135 жыл бұрын
Hi Kim! Thanks for the amazing tutorial. So after you join the back to the pleated front how do you see the darts on the front?
@KimDave5 жыл бұрын
I left the front without like that because sewing in the dart on the side with the pleat will ruin the draping on the front of the dress
@RachaelO135 жыл бұрын
Kim Dave thanks for the reply! Was mainly wandering if it will still be fitted but will try this method and let you know how it goes :)
