I am so intrigued how you build that front-end to keep it so lean on the infrastructure side. I understand though with all the stories especially the Tencent one that you are very keen on keeping things close to the vest. All the best! We need more devs like you showing how a one-man-show can accomplish something as daunting as this!

POE Ninja is so incredibly important to the eco system of POE. I wish every game had a tool like this

Great talk, great story. How do you manage your time? Do you feel any competition between your side projects and family time?

Legitimately POE.Ninja is the best part of Path of Exile. Thanks for all the hard work.

Great to hear from the site author - I rely on the poe ninja site quite a lot while playing Path of Exile, it's a fantastic tool for both keeping track of the game economy as well as finding ideas for character builds.

Really nice to hear this level of detail about a tool I've used so much! Rasmus, if you end up checking these comments, I have a question... how much effort, on average, does it take to update the site when a new league launches? Anything that GGG released that was much more difficult to manage than everything else?

Why didnt he just let ppl do the localization, like when he was having the system he could setup a repo in github for localization and ppl could fill it up for free.

If I were to contribute to that localization repo, and translate "scion" to "거시기 땀" along with 100 other strings.... who's gonna make sure my translations aren't trash? Rasmus would be the one approving the PRs, therefore responsible for what they contain. It would make sense if there was a programatic way to handle those things (if the data coming from GGG had localization strings built in and he was using the strings directly from the api responses). A packaged localization provider wouldn't be able to accurately translate the strings between languages. Imagine if in game, you saw "scion" but when coming to the site you saw "child" instead. That'd be weird right? There's also a ton of pictures that mean the same thing no matter the language. They don't help for the filtering of builds necessarily, but you could just include a svg of the gem when hovering the skills, same with items.

Because every time he makes a change in the code, it cannot be released until you translate it. If you make frequent refactorings, this will be a hindrance.

on what grounds do you make that claim? He has a full time job. Poe.ninja is a just something on the side that he gets almost no revenue from. His patreon has ~50 paying members which is either 1 or 5 buck so not much in total. And even the ad revenue won't be huge. Does it help? Sure it will cover the server and services costs and a bit of pocket money, but rich? Don't fool yourself. Be thankful that he does this as a passion project.

And besides unsung does not have anything to do with money but with recognition. He for sure doesn't get as much recognition from the Path of Exile community as he should get (compared to how many people of the community are using the site and call it almost a "must use" if you play Path of Exile) -> unsung

I soon as I saw poe.ninja I undesrtood why youtube kept recommending this video. I am a dev myself, but haven't watched any NDC talks in a while. Now it all makes sense. Thanks a lot for your side project.
