Is there a way to do this inside of Premiere pro without using the Essential Sound panel?

Thanks man! I used this on a podcast and it really helped with multiple mics in the same room

Is there any way of reversing the ducking? So that the second track increases in volume with the first track signal, then goes silent when it disappears?
@GuyFoxGuyFoxGuyFox3 жыл бұрын
Yes but instead of compression you need expansion

Hey! I have a voice over, background noise, and a soundtack. How can I duck the audio from the voice over to the sound track, as well as the background noise? It only seems to let me side channel the voice over to ONE other track, not both. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Fantastic, thank you! It's a shame you can't just do it within the effect plug-in but luckily you're here!

Great I was hoping there would be a simple quick side chain compression tutorial and viola :) >> see even 4 and a half years later this video is still super useful cheers!

is it possible to make it start decrasing music volume earlier (for exaple 1 second BEFORE speech starts), so it's not as harsh? Same goes for increasing volume after voice ends. Which parameters shoud I change to achieve that?
@LatinBreeze7 жыл бұрын
Yes, increase the attack and play around with it. the higher the attack the longer it will fade down for.

This doesn't work for me, side chain doesn't feed into the compression. When I set up compression it works fine and the audio is reduced, but when I setup sidechain, it does nothing, the audio does not duck and audio is just permanently reduced. Instructions are simple enough so I have no idea what the problem is. Could NOT get this working so just did the side-chain in Cubase instead.

This has helped my issue, but hasn't eliminated it. My problem is that I need to completely mute a 2nd voice track when someone on the 1st is speaking, but have the 2nd track be at normal volume when the 1st track is silent. I'm trying to eliminate some crosstalk between two microphones that were placed too close together for voiceover.
@JuicyTuts8 жыл бұрын
Not sure this is the best solution for your problem, but if you wanted to use this you could just set the ducking a bit more aggressively. So instead of ducking -12 to -24dB, it actually ducks so much that the track is silent. Haven't tried it myself but might help. Again, not entirely sure this is the answer to this particular problem. It might sound weird if voice 2 is in the middle of saying something when voice 1 talks.
@JeffreyIsbell8 жыл бұрын
I've never tried to solve your problem. But it seems like one ought to be able to apply the same effect back and forth across the two channels. IF you are trying to force two mic channels to "take turns" it might work. You'd have to adjust settings carefully to find the right amount of effect. OR, (a different approach) you could put noise gates on each channel and just have them clamp down to zero as soon as the level drops below a certain point (threshold). Tell us what happened.
@GavinGavinMcGavin7 жыл бұрын
I know this comment is old, but what you need is a noise gate with a high threshold.
@andyg1067 жыл бұрын
Just a thought, maybe what you want is a noise gate on a side chain set to just above the level of your cross talk. That way if somebody is talking into the mic for real you'll get them talking as well but you won't get an annoying jammy gate when someone is speaking dynamically.

Hmm unfortunately, I don't have anything in the side-chain bar other than 'Add Bus". I did make a new bus that connects to the dynamics processing but when placing my soundtrack, it just creates a new track.

Look in your Effects Rack window, there's a section that lets you choose between Clip Effects and Track Effects, switch to Track Effects for the rack.

Nice tutorial! In my opinion Adobe Audition is the worst DAW ever when it comes to use advanced techniques and midi support. Its easy to use Audition interface but it is too simplistic for arranging channels-ports, send/return, sidechains and parallel comp. For some plugins inside Audition the configuration is impossible...so I also use Reaper.
