I love how effective this is. I'm shooting videos of about up to 6 or 8 people performing Improv in an acting class. I'm using Rode Wireless Go (the original, not the newer v2). I see this video is 5 years old so just wondering whether all of this is now automated via the denoise functionality or whether this is an alternative or better process? I don't mind taking extra time for a manual process if it's a better outcome but for obvious reasons don't want to spend time if it's already automated.

@MikeRussell3 жыл бұрын
The technique would be the same across all DAWS. Find the maximum amplitude of the mic bleed from the second speaker and apply a noise gate set at that level. Make sure to preview before you apply to ensure you haven't also cut off any of the softer bits from the actual speaker on that microphone.
@KanapaKnapa3 жыл бұрын

Just starting a podcast for my association and finding your tutorials incredibly helpful! A challenge for me is getting good audio recorded. Hey Mike. Thanks a lot for this video. I'm not sure if I've looked over it or not, but do you have an in depth video on how to tweak the attack, release and hold of the AutoGate? I've been playing around with it a bit and have found some explanation online but I still can't get my head around how these three buttons work. I'm able to filter out the mic bleed, but the main voice in the respective tracks always kind of gets choppy. Thanks i.a.!
@MikeRussell2 жыл бұрын
It sounds like the mic bleed and certain parts of the main voice are of similar amplitude. You may wish to try upping the hold and / or the attack figures.
@gibsonedu5 жыл бұрын
Nice work :) Didn't know about the polywave track. Curious to hear how the deleted silences sound; obviously would be impacted by settings and all. I generally avoid using a gate for the silences because it wants to start triggering a little bit on breaths where they inhale but it's not quite enough to trigger the gate but it's halfway getting cut out and sounds awkward. Then lightening up how aggressive it is just ends up leaving a little too much. Will try again with some of your tips from this video.
@MikeRussell5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Thom. You're right that it's a fine art to setup a gate and it does crush those breaths for sure!

great tutorial. I have however found that deleting all scanned silences also makes the conversation within each single tracks less realistic. The delete silence edit of course is not able to distinguish a pause for breath and a silence between two speaker. The result was a very rushed conversation or monologue even, somthing like playback times 2

Hey Mike, thanks for all your work! As I'm just getting into podcasting, you're a life saver. Probably a noob question, when deleting silence does it matter that the audio files aren't sync'd? I saw you can load them separately in multi track but didn't know if they needed to be sync'd ahead of that or if doing it in multi track is still appropriate.
@anthonybreedlove15522 жыл бұрын
Also, is it normal for the process to take a long time? Sometimes when a process is resource taxing Audition will go into 'Not Responding limbo' but usually catches up fairly quick. This is the only process that stays in that 'limbo' state.
@MikeRussell2 жыл бұрын
If you are deleting silences across multiple files it's better to combine them into a poly wave and let Audition delete the silences that way.

Mike, great video. I'm a relative novice and testing Audition. Learned a lot from you. One question about your process here. On my podcast, I mix down separate tracks to a single mono file. Instead of applying delete silence feature to polywave files, wouldn't it just make more sense for me to mix down the tracks and apply the delete silence feature to the mono track? Is there a disadvantage to doing it that way?
@georgiema47103 жыл бұрын
This is amazing! The silence hack was pretty cool. I tried the the mic bleed for a couple of multitracks I had talking at the same time but I found it also cut out some of the conversation from the speaker. I tried playing around with it but I couldn't get it to only cut the bleed out - any further tips would be appreciated. Thank you.
@MikeRussell3 жыл бұрын
I'd suggest you post an unedited sample in our community community.musicradiocreative.com/ but in short if the mic bleed is louder than the quietest part of the talking on the track itself then you can't eradicate it easily

@MikeRussell3 жыл бұрын
Multitrack will only alter the audio using any effects you’ve added to the effects rack. The ideal is to record in a good recording environment without background noise but before you process your recording you’ll need to remove the background noise otherwise your effects rack effects will enhance it
