Man that's just awesome explanation...... The concepts and techniques looks complex but u make it easy to understand.! Looking forward for other parts in this series.!

I must be a bit work damaged because I was giggling at the clever but complex way you found the middle. I would have just rotated it with the rotation being calculated from the number of sides or for a more exact/none uniform way I would have resampled like you but used a group range node to get 1 of 2 since 0 would stay in a corner. I really need to take an other look at ramps. They are so useful and I think they should be more accessible and easy to set up so I want to make a tool. Your way of doing it looks impressive and I want to try it. Last I tried making a ramp to control peak or position of a point I did something wrong and failed. Awesome scene breakdown and I learned things, have a cookie!

Hehe you are right several options are possible for "middle point", turning the model is one of them assuming you are working on a perfect circle like in this case, which isn't always the case. Groupbyrange is always a good one though ! Ramps are very very versatile tools, defintely worth pushing your efforts :)

Do you know what the settings are in those Attribute trans. / Orient Along curve nodes?...I noticed you didn't click directly on those only on the display flag
@AdrienLambertvfx2 жыл бұрын
Orientation along curve should setup Normal and Up vector, by default I didn't need to change anything in there but you can adjust plenty of things if you need to add a twist, change the role/pitch/yaw or customize up vector... Before a sweep it's important to add that to your curve to make sure orientation of the profile will flow on the tangent of the curve. In the past would use polyframe for that

Hi do you have a tutorial for this awesome castle? I recently purchased your Mystic Tower tutorial because I love those kinds of cool stuff; however when I checked your website I couldn't find this Procedural NeoGothic Architecture tutorial anywhere :( do you think maybe you could make a release? willing to pay for some new knowledge/skills. Thanks for the breakdown as well you are clearly very talented bravo.

awesome work as usual but... I still think this task would be much easier/straight forward using more traditional modelling techniques. The only real benefit that I can see (other than things being non-destructive of course!) is the small HDA's you made. They are cool, but to me it seems only worth the time if you are making many variations... Regardless of my unpopular opinion, the results you've created are incredible (as always) and I am inspired by your hard work and generosity :) Thanks for the share
@AdrienLambertvfx3 жыл бұрын
Thanks ! Agreed things are always easier going the traditional road. I actually tried this way at the beginning, quickly realized so many stuff I was doing was so laborious and tedious I end up having more fun in Houdini... passing the phase of developping some tools of course. It's by creating small and bigger HDA that you can defintely leverage houdini's capacity so you don't need to reinvent the wheel all the time. A lot of elements in this project are slightly different over the building, Having a procedural setup definitely helped me matching closer to the real thing. And maybe I'm just addicted to nodes at this point haha
@jessarc67152 жыл бұрын
First of all, congratulations, I appreciate the long hours this kind of procedural achievement can take... I have one question: you mention (or so I understood) that you keep like two separated geometry flows, one for common geometry and another one for packed prims (or maybe just the points+attributes?) to avoid problems further down the line. Could you please elaborate (or maybe mention about it on a another episode :) ) about what kind of issues are you refering to? Thanks and looking forward for more content from you
@AdrienLambertvfx2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jess ! It is possible to do it (merge packed prim with non packed), but from my experience may make houdini unstable and much more prompt to crashes. Just my 2cents on that, maybe got better on latest version. I find it a good habit to have though. If need to merge everything under one, can still add a "pack"sop to merge with rest of packed geo.
