the actual ones are definitely painted by cheap chinese labourers, you can even tell this particular model is 3d printed as you can see the layer lines

It's still just a piece of cheap plastic, I don't care how many layers of paint they put on it. They should consider another material with some weight and quality feel to it.

@@DuoFurey sometimes I wonder why they don't just use the same or similar factories hot toys uses. I mean sideshow has been their distributor for years now and have even collaborated on some stuff, but I know it's probably not that simple.

@@mandocalrissian6454 Hot toys stuff is very posesable unlike sideshow which is a big plus to hot toys. Sideshow is more akin to prime1studios because they are just statues. Prime1 being much better but the price difference shows.

Some really interesting techniques you don't see from some other painters--flicking a toothbrush for mud/oil splatters, spritzing alcohol, sea sponge for softening washes. Nice!

I am fairly new to the hot toys Star Wars collectibles. When I first place my pre-order for the Kenobi series version of Darth Vader I could not believe how long they said the wait time would be. Now, after watching this video I have a whole new appreciation for the amazing talented people with this company that do things by hand. Just curious, why freehand airbrush the visor after applying alclad? I feel like even with a super precise needle you’d get overspray around the visor which would likely need to be touched up. I ask because the first coat is already gloss black after primer. Wouldn’t it make more sense to liquid mask or tape mask after that and then pull it up? Seems a bit less risky then what’s shown. Just curious as someone who also paints!

I do like the detailing but the weathering isn't enough, looks like almost brand new. Eyes of baby yoda is really nice.

Uh, they aren't. They are painted overseas. Only a couple prototypes are hand painted. Production pieces are not hand painted and are not even close to this level.

I'd like to see someone do a "hue shift" paint job of a character like this. Basically, take that character, put them in Photoshop or other software and shift the hue to where it looks strange and alien, and then paint the figurine with those hue shifted colors, but using all of the same techniques for texture and weathering that you normally would for the same materials.
