Makes the heart warm to see Townes so happy here, even if for but one brief moment captured in the sands of time. Such an immensely brilliant soul. I pray he found the peace in death that tortured his wandering soul in life. Here’s to Townes and to all the poetry he was so kind enough to grace us with.

Writing a hit is one of those paradoxical things which requires doing something thats been done a million times before in a way that's never been done before....making the old sound new and the familiar boring shit sound new and exciting. Used to be guys could just write good stories over the same tried and true progressions...now it takes a team...the reason is because one word can be the difference between a hit or a dud....change a word get a third!

The song is in the key of G and there are 3 chords: G -- C -- D (I -- IV -- V). He throws G7 and D7 around for good measure where it counts. Its as straight a country progression as it gets and a great example of Jubal Clark's work; Calvin's rendition is so good.
