A nomination so well deserved! The only thing I wonder why it took so long for them to enshrine and invite Sir Sid in! The story goes that Sidney Moncrief was such a good defender that they created to Defensive Player of the Year award so they could give it to him. Of course now that trophy is named after Hakeem Olajuwon who just happens to be my all time favourite big man. For some reason Moncrief has always been a favourite of mine even though I started to watch the NBA at the early 90s when he had already retired. Something about his complete game just stood out to me. To be able to drop 22+ ppg as a guard with 50+ % shooting and at the same time to be the greatest defender in the league is something else. Something only so so few have been able to accomplish. Too bad Moncrief's knee(s) gave up and he had to retire so early. The Bucks would have probably had something to say during the early 90s aswell if Moncrief had been able to play a bit longer. Definitely during the latter 80s atleast. I once wrote an essay about Moncrief to a gaming site a few years back after getting his high tier card in 2K. That one got many likes and got people who didn't care too much basketball overall or about 2K to watch his highlights and a bit more into the sport aswell. I really liked that and it helped me to enjoy his card in my team even more and more ways than one. The day before yesterday was that day again, got his high tier card for my team and it has been a blast of a weekend with him and that card in my team again. Always a special case for me.

He forgot to mention his extraordinary teammate, Marques Johnson. Oops! Oh well, nobody's perfect. I was lucky growing up in Milwaukee getting to watch Sidney & Marques. Sidney was tough like Allen Iverson. And in a Sports Illustrated article that began by asked whether or Bird or Magic was the best player in the NBA, the writer answered, neither, that (for a brief year or so before Bird & Magic hit their prime) Marques Johnson was the best. We Milwaukee fans had no fear watching our Marques take on Dr. J. for at least a couple of years. Bob Lanier has said on numerous occasions that he'd rather have Marques as a teammate than Dr. J. (Dr. J. is my all-time favorite player so I mean no disrespect.)
