Sidney Moncrief is, in my opinion, the biggest Hall of Fame snub ever. It's been over 20 years since he's been eligible to make the hall, but he still hasn't. In his prime, he was one of the most complete guards in NBA history. He could post-up, shoot, pass, scored 20+ points a game, and was also the best defender in the league for a few years.
I make all kinds of NBA videos which include trivia, analysis, player stories, countdowns, conspiracies, and mysteries. Make sure to leave a like and subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

Not sure about drose thoght. Yeah, he won mvp but he only had like 3 good years in his resume and he also hasn't won anything yet. Maybe if he can snuck some 6 man of the years, or one championship in next few years, he will be able to make it

I remember someone once saying that if Pippen hadn't been drafted by the Bulls, he'd be remembered in the same light as Sidney Moncrief. That's the first time I ever heard the guys name. And I think the guy had a point. Moncrief was a defensive monster and all around player who could score, pass, and rebound. I'm glad he's in the HoF now. He deserved to get in a long time ago.

Robertson was surreal. He used to put huge swathes of tape around his wrist so that the refs could see his hands better. Otherwise he'd get called for steals that were otherwise legit. Interestingly, Jordan named both Sidney and Robertson as two of the five best defensive players he ever went up against. Sidney had leadership qualities that Robertson lacked. To be blunt about it, Alvin, despite being a great athlete, is a bit of a thug and a jerk off the court.

Great video!! Sid was not only an obvious hall of fame player but also a great PERSON. With a little luck, (they had NO luck) they could have easily won at least one NBA title, they never did manage to replace all star forward Dave Meyers who quit basketball in the prime of his career. If he had not quit, I think the Bucks would have gotten to the finals a few times. Sidney was such a great player & was the soul of a great team with many great players. Marques Johnson, Junior Bridgeman & Brian Winters should also be considered for the hall. Congrats Sidney for FINALLY being recognized. Its about time!!!

Moncrief was phenomenal! That said, he was far from all the bucks had in the mid 80's. They also had prime Terry Cummings, Paul Pressey, Craig Hodges, plus Ricky Pierce off the bench in 86, all of whom averaged double figures with Pressey putting up 14-15 a game and Cummings almost 20, after averaging over 20 the year prior. They were a pretty damn good team from 84 to 86, and even after Sidney got injured in the late 80's, they were still a consistent playoff team with them adding Sikma down low in the late 80's.

Don't forget about Elton Brand.... it's the Basketball Hall Of Fame, not the NBA HOF. From 2000-07, He was a 20 & 10 guy, his stretch with the Clippers was scary good (During those 7 years, he led the league in offensive boards twice) & had he played in the EC in his prime, he'd be better remembered. He also has longevity going for him (played till he was 36) plus he played for USA at the FIBA Americas (Winning Gold twice) & the FIBA WC (Winning Bronze). Brand is often forgotten as a Top 5 PF of his era (Duncan, Dirk, Garnett, Webber & Brand are my 5 guys.... Stoudamire & Bosh are close though.) & should make the HOF IMO.
@codyssmith73
@codyssmith73 6 жыл бұрын
Stat was better than Brand at his peak, but Brand had more longevity, which is what I value more, not to mention Brand was a better shot blocker, averaging over 2 blocks a game during his time in LA (Something neither Bosh or Stat ever did). Bosh was also good & I love him to death (I'm actually a Raptors fan & I'll vouch for my Raps any day of the week), but an area Brand has both guys beat is rebounding. Brand had 5 years as a top 10 rebound guy, Bosh had 2 & Amare had 1. Brand was also the only one of these 3 guys to finish in the top 10 for offensive boards in a season, with *9* of them. People love talking about great rebounders, but Brand never gets brought up in that discussion. Brand had more years in which he was top 10 for offensive boards than Tim Duncan (who had 6) & KG (who had 4). If I needed to send a PF out there for a putback in that era, I'm taking Elton.
@codyssmith73
@codyssmith73 6 жыл бұрын
Um..... are your forgetting who Stat played with? Steve Nash was arguably one the best PG's we've ever seen save for his defense, and that helped Stat out more anything..... we saw what Stat did without Nash in New York those 1st few years when he wasn't banged up & he was good, but Brand never had that great PG to play off of. You're overrating Stat tremendously.
@codyssmith73
@codyssmith73 6 жыл бұрын
Okay: That 2011 year is something I'll agree with. New York probably regrets that trade horribly..... had Stat stayed healthy & Gallo grown into the player he's become (a fringe level all star when he's at the top of the game, if you ask me), who knows what the Knicks would've done?

Before the Greek Freak, Sidney Moncrief was the man in Milwaukee. I also remember those Bucks teams in the 1980s. They made the playoffs every year in that decade. Unfortunately, they ran into the 76ers, Celtics and the Pistons who hogged up most of the NBA Finals appearances and titles from the East in the 1980s.
@joesmith8725
@joesmith8725 5 жыл бұрын
Those damn 76ers and Celtics were always in the way of the Bucks (usually in the ECFs) in the playoffs during the '80s. Should've won at least won an NBA title during that decade. Great defensive team. They did win one back in 1971, but with completely different players.

Jack Sikma? You can make a great case for him being in the Hall of Fame. 17500 points, 10000 rebounds, at least 6 all star games and was the starter on a championship team. I don't think you could have made the case 10 years ago but ever since Ralph Sampson got enshrined it left the flood gates open for borderline cases like Sikma.

Love Sidney, but best all around guard by his time? You simply don't know enough about Oscar Robertson and Jerry West. Robertson might still be the best all around player of all time. Absolutely no holes in his game. West frequently tallied more than ten steals in a game and possessed the best pull up jump shot of all time. In fact, the Lakers would run a play where they would put four players on one side of the court, give the ball to West, and simply let him shake and bake until he felt comfortable in pulling up for the jumper. And he was absolutely unstoppable when he would do this. West was so good as either a point guard or shooting guard that he could do wither and be devastating, to this day the best guard ever at being able to assume either role. Sidney was awesome, but as great as he was he wasn't in West's class stealing the ball and lacked West's killer jump shot. Neither could he run an offense the way that West could. The ONLY way you would say Sidney was the best all around player by that point is to not know enough about West's and Robertson's games. Also, keep in mind that in the Sixties they didn't keep many of the stats that they do today. West might have had several several quadruple doubles, getting doubles in points, rebounds, assists, and steals. Keep in mind that I say this as a gigantically biased Arkansas Razorback fan. But there were only a few things that Sidney did better than West, such as rebound and score inside. West was a better passer, ball handler, ball hawk, shooter at all ranges (except dunking). They were about the same as a shot blocker (West had absurdly long arms which combined with his quickness allowed him to block more shots than people who never saw him would guess). Still, I'm ecstatic that Sidney finally made the Hall. He was just unreal during that 4 or 5 year period before his knees finally gave out. And the game where he guarded Larry Bird for the second half of the Arkansas/Indiana State game in the NCAA playoffs was one of the all time best NCAA performances. If not for an atrocious call by the ref, who called traveling on U.S. Reed when he not only didn't travel but was fouled, Arkansas would and should have won the game on one of the best all round play off games ever. Bird was unstoppable in the first half, but in the second they put Sidney on him and he shut Bird down completely. They had already named Bird the player of the game, but in the last couple of minutes they changed it, naming co-players of the game. This was at a time when you only had one player of the game, so for Sidney to be co-player was unreal. And his Sports Illustrated cover titled "High on the Hogs" is to this day one of the half dozen best covers of all time. I have the copy I bought in downtown New Haven, CT hanging on my wall right now.

If somebody is the only player in NBA history to reach an elite level of basketball greatness, such as the only guard to win 2 DPOY awards , , , then they deserve to be in the Basketball Hall of Fame.

He should be in the Hall, no question, but he doesn't have those big moments like the truly great ones had. He never could get over the hump and if he was their 'best player', that blame falls heavily on him.

People look at the 80s and think "the Lakers and Celtics dominated, they had no real competition"... but that's just a testament to how stacked/great the Lakers/Celtics were. They played against some really good teams, such as the Bucks, that don't get the credit they deserve because they were overshadowed. But make no mistake about it, there were a lot of great teams in the 80s.

Cool! Normally I wouldn't care, but Sidney played with all the heart in the world. 6'3 post up any body. Dived for all the balls, jumping in the stands. Laser like focus.

From what I've seen and heard, Sidney was kind of like a smaller Kawhi when he was in his prime (even tho Kawhi is a forward).

Not worth mentioning that Sidney led the Bucks a couple times in scoring, assists, rebounds, while winning Defensive Player of the Year? The Hall of Fame concept is bogus. Sportswriters aren't qualified to vote on who the all-time greats are. Sportswriters are geeks by definition. Let a player's career speak for itself.

One thing I’d add: in 1979 the two best college players were Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. Number 3 was Sidney Moncrief. He may have had bad timing being in the same lot as Bird and Magic, can kind of see how he was destined to be overlooked.

He was a first rate player on both ends of the court. The reason he wasn't in the hall for a long time was because he played in a small market, doesn't have a ring, and doesn't have the longevity because of his injuries. I still think he had a long enough run to get in. He was basically like Joe Dumars with maybe even a little more offense. But unfortunately he played against those classic Celtics teams with prime Bird/McHale/Parish and 76ers teams with Dr J and Moses. He definitely deserved a trip to the hall and I'm glad he finally got in a couple of years ago. Maybe a few people saw this vid. Lol.

still impressed with your Jokic video. that dude reminds me of Arvydas Sabonis. can you please do a: what if Arvydas Sabonis start with the Blazers during the year he got drafted? I'm a fan of finesse players like him and Drexler. can only imagine them playing together.

The Bucks in those years were a victim of bad timing. When they had Lanier, they were able to match the Celtics and Lakers at the 5 but the rest of their team wasn't quite as good since Moncrief, perhaps the most critical piece, hadn't yet come into his own. When he started to peak, the Lanier years were nearing the end. There might have been maybe one season around '82 or '83 when it all lined up but unfortunately, you had the Sixers who had one of the most dominant seasons in NBA history. By the time the Bucks had the talent to match the Lakers and Celtics, they lost Lanier and spent the next 3 or 4 seasons at a substantial disadvantage at the 5. That disadvantage was ultimately what caused them to come up short every year.

This was before you could watch any game at any time. The Bucks just wasnt televised much. You either saw them on the George Micheals Sports Machine or being run out the gym by the Celtics or Sixers in the playoffs. Moncrief, Cummings, Pressely, all good players just couldn't get past the great ones.

I wonder who were here when El Sid made the Hall of Fame? Sidney Moncrief is one of the most underrated player of the 1980s because while he was a good player he would always get overshadowed by Magic and Bird. It's a shame that he couldn't make the NBA 75th Anniversary Team.
@lovethick

The NBA should focus more on adding great players from the past, like Sidney Moncrief, to the NBA's 75th Anniversary list (top 75 NBA players) more than adding NBA players who r still playing in the NBA.
