Big fan of the Sony for sure. I’m curious if the Sigma has profile corrections available in LR? I’m wondering how much internal correction is going on behind the scenes with the Sony version.
@gelderman12 жыл бұрын
Calling the Sigma lens bad is in my opinion not fair because it's price difference of 400 euros in The Netherlands. I have tested both lenses and with the camera (Sony A9) correction on, you don't have barrel distortion at all.

"a little bit cheaper" bruv its 400 bucks cheaper

In Norway the Sigma costs only 800 USD while the Sony costs 1150 USD. I don't think the Sony worth for 350 usd extra money. I will go for the Sigma for sure :). Thanks you so much for the great video.

Did you disable in-camera corrections for the lenses?

He did. Mine have zero vignette or distortion with corrections on.

It is not a secret that Sony cameras love Sony lenses. They were made for each other. I mean, literally. The design teams co-operate for the best outcome right from the beginning. No need for backward engineering, they share the blueprints. That's why.

Random question Sid. I'm looking for a remote to trigger the record button for the A7siii. Which one would you recommend?

I own the Sony 20mm 1.8 G, it's my go to for video and landscape or environmental portraits. Paired with the a7iv, I can easily go to crop mode and have 30mm!! I got it used for $900cdn/$700usd, so it was a great deal compared to the 24mm 1.4 GM.

If you ever want anything wider, the 20mm is a fantastic lens and a very enjoyable size to shoot with!

So you're are you correcting distortion in post? I think first the price difference th Sony is a better buy (I have it and its super sharp). I'm not so sure this is a comparison when the price is so close. Maybe a comparison is the Samyang 135 vs Sony 135 at $1000 difference makes more sense...just saying . Keep up the great work!
@TuckerPearce2 жыл бұрын
There’s also a $200 difference so some of it might come down to what you can afford. I’d agree the Sony is worth the extra money.

Thanks for taking the time to create these reviews, Sidney. I know it can be difficult to get eyeballs to your posts, but I have to say this title is a little click-batey. You make it sound like the results of the review will save you from a fate worse than death, which ain't so. On the other hand, I am not out there creating content every day, so my opinion ain't worth jack. Sending anyway. Again, thanks, it was a good review.

I personally haven't had very good luck with any Sigma lenses made for Sony cameras. The G and GM series definitely has me spoiled. Grreat video!
@stkuj2 жыл бұрын
I think you need to re-evaluate this; maybe you only used the non-mirrorless versions? The 35 & 85 1.4 DG DN versions are great value for the money. Actually the Sigma has build better and many would argue a bit sharper. Also, don't forgot the locking aperture ring vs the GM non-locking ring. Don't get me wrong the GM's are top shelf with a top shelf price.

It's a good comparison video, but frankly I find putting Sony photos sometimes on the left in the side-by-side, sometimes on the right, confusing and a mistake.

You would say the G build quality on this is not as nice as the G master build quality? A lot of videos I've seen say 'here you're getting that G master build quality'

That Sigma barrel distortion is, in my opinion, inexcusable for a prime lens.
@m4rcin8479 ай бұрын
Just turn on lens correction and it gone and you have additional 400$ in your pocket for same image quality and way better build.

The price point is close enough I don’t see the benefit of getting the sigma next to a Sony prime. With That said the sigma looks great. I’m either on the sony 20 or 50 GM lately.

Before watching the review, I picked the Sigma each time for better quality, in my opinion. I guess I'll see if I was correct.

Where in the world are these two lenses just 100 Dollar apart? In Europe the Sigma costs 699 Euros while the Sony costs 920 Euros - so 220 Euros / 231 Dollar difference. Even in the US the lenses are 200 dollar apart. Anyways - the Sony is the better lens and definitely worth the extra money.
