When I was there last year, I had to avoid Sidon/Saida, because there have been some clashes between 2 refugee camp fractions, that affect also the city. I instead passed the region and visited Tyre/Sur, which was over the Litani river. This region is somehow a little bit spooky, but I hope that the people lifes will get more comfortable in the future. Many people there have no other jobs and perspectives, so they join the regional army there. I feel sorry for the people there

Yes, it's not an easy place to live despite the history and the beauty. I sincerely hope that the towns do not suffer from yet another conflict in the near future.

I just came across this wonder video. I visited both cities in 1973 or ‘74. I do not recall the beauty of the suks or the tall buildings. It was a dangerous time and I had no guide. My driver took me from the beautiful Phoenician Hotel to Sidon and Tyre and left me on my own. We passed a checkpoint where they held my US passport until we returned later that evening. Driver would not allow me to exit his car for drinks. He fetched them and brought to me. Have all these beautiful homes and buildings been built since my trip?

The area has definitely changed a lot since the 1970s! One can only hope that it doesn't fall into chaos again given the current turmoil across the border.

@@TravelObscurer When I said the driver would not let me out of the car for drinks I was referring to the trip back to Beirut from Tyre. I wondered around all the ruins in Sidon and Tyre by myself. I was stunned in your wonderful video to see how much the areas have improved. Thanks again for bringing back a great trip memory. I was working in the ME therefore I couldn't visit Israel :)

The day of judgment is decisive and displays to all the seal of truth. Fascinating ancient roman and greek sites but the area isn;t accessible - still controlled by palestinian and hezbollah militias- like anicient sites in syria and iraq that have so much tourist potential yet the areas are so dangerous and unstable
