What’s funny is that Yona is getting hate simply because she’s Sidon’s fiancée lol. As a character, she’s very similar to Mipha who the majority adore and is actively helping those affected by the sludge, in a domain she only just started living in. What more could you ask for? She’s an Angel.

This is how certain parts of Ships fanbases work (Most commonly seen in Yaoi or Yuri Ships). If they see that two friends behave friendly *(as all friends do),* then those fanbases immediately think that the two of them are going to get married, have children, etc, etc, etc. And they will mercilessly attack anyone who can ruin their Fanarts. I like ships (Hell, even I've done fanarts), but not when they rub it in my face and tell me I'm wrong just because I don't like those ships.

And if we have hinted hetero pairings, that same Yuri/yaoi fanbase would find every reason under the sun to invalidate it and bash those fans simply because they don’t agree with it. Case in point, Sidon x Link shippers causing hell for Zelda x Link shippers in BoTW era, despite the game itself hinting that at least one of the characters has feelings for the other, whereas Sidon x Link… didn’t really have that much substance canonically in comparison.

I don't care that she's engaged to Sidon, she's boring. She wasn't in the last game, she has no real character arc in this one, and the game just expects you to roll with the idea that she's now a huge part of Sidon's life. They have no chemistry and it's all so forced and phony.

@@CreditR01 Not caring for a character because they feel out of place or you simply not liking them is completely fine, I’m only addressing the fact that Yona is getting flamed purely for the reason that she’s Sidon’s fiancée, and not because people found an issue with her characterisation. This is mostly by the SidLink shippers. Yes, she was shoehorned into the plot line out of nowhere and didn’t exist in BoTW, but what some of us fail to realise is that Yona’s existence proves that BoTW/ToTK Hyrule extends beyond the borders that we know of currently, since Yona is specifically from a different domain of Zoras we haven’t seen or heard of until now. Whether this is prep for future DLC is uncertain, we’ll have to see. One can also argue that she’s known Sidon off screen, are childhood friends and visits each other despite some distance being there- all of these factors also applies to Mipha and Link, a pairing that received noticeably less hate. How else was Nintendo supposed to introduce Yona into the role she’s in? The focus of that arc was mostly on Sidon so it’s not surprising that Yona didn’t get much screen time. They could have done a lot worse than this imo, she does have unique voice clips which is pretty much unheard of for a simple unassuming NPC . Her becoming more relevant and fleshed out in a future update or DLC could be a possibility, who knows?

I’m sorry, but I just can’t bring myself to hate Yona. Like seriously, the people who hate her out of jealousy are just kind of… I don’t know… a bit petty?(I mean I can understand but still, chill) She was healing the Zora citizens when the mud was kicking in, she help Link gather the swimming armor(really useful) and she encouraged and inspired Sidon to fight alongside Link to get rid of the mud once and for all. Plus she isn’t that rude either, it’s a win-win-win-win! (Ranting time, if you don’t want to read this then feel free to skip over it) And besides, for all of those that hate her. What good would it bring to kill her or make her disappear? Just so you could keep Sidon all to yourselves? Have you perhaps forgotten that she is Sidon’s CHILDHOOD FRIEND? How do you think Sidon would feel about that? Do you think he would forgive you? Love you? "No worries, I’d just have to do it in secret. That way Sidon couldn’t possibly think it was us. And we win!" Yeah, but that would be a selfish act. One would think that if you love someone, you would do everything thing in your power to make that person happy right? Well, do you really think he would be happy if his childhood friend and now wife were to be murdered mysteriously? I know I wouldn’t… or.. perhaps you care not about his happiness, but rather your own happiness?🤔 pretty selfish and rude if you ask me. Plus they are Royalty, that would make that Link as a knight AND as a personal ally of Sidon, obligated to protect Sidon and his family, in which Yona is now a part of. All of this rage towards her is petty and undeserved, though I must admit that I understand this sudden anger a tiny bit. After all, even I am still pissed that my personal favorite character, Kass, isn’t even in the game. So I can understand the feeling of rage towards a sudden unforeseen change, but even with that it’s of no use to be angry about it forever. And we must learn to swallow our pride and move on. The least you can do is to be happy for the guy, I mean come on, he gets to marry his childhood friend! That’s awesome! But hey, I’m not your dad. If you want to continue seething about it instead of being happy for the mariage of your favorite character then you have all the right to do so. (Anyway, yeah, end of the 🤓🤓🤓 segment. For those who have the game, we can see a wall written by Sidon. The chapter is 2 sisters, he talks about Mipha, Yona, the arranged marriage with her and the fact that he saw her as a sister. There’s nothing romantic about it, he’s playing a double game for his father, his people. Even if he’s worried about her, remember he’s worried about everyone because he’s afraid of losing someone. And it's not any denial or headcanons.. it's on the game ( for those want to belived in this " love story " )

I like Yona as a character but I personally feel that the romance is forced. She'd make a great adviser for Sidon , but when I see them calling eachother my love or dearest I cringe a little.
