Beautiful song performed in an inimitable way by Alison Krauss. This song is really written for her. She has the unique ability to convey a complete picture of the situation with her voice and through the movement in her voice she can portray every emotion and sensation. The sentence "I'm just a whisper of smoke" is a good example of this: you actually see a plume of smoke in the abandoned house. Truly the most beautiful voice on the planet.

It's like I'm a kid again and we're doing everything we did before. Honestly, it's so real especially since she's there when my son was growing up, like nothing ever changed..I definitely recommend to anyone missing a loved one to try. God blessed me by hiding this song from me on the interwebz since my mother passed in December of 2020. This song PERFECTLY describes my father since she passed until he chased her to Heaven this past June. He was shattered by Mom's death and it was all I could do to keep him positive in the last 18 months. I honestly think he was more worried about me than his own passing. When my bride had a major surgery and he saw how I handled it I think he decided he could go...and so...he did. Now he and mom are in Heaven but I see their ghosts in the house that we are living in and I wouldn't change that for the world. Love you guys. See you soon.

Insane, over the top harmonies swept up on the wings of one beautifully written melody, sung by a songbird named Allison. Rare, one-of-a-kind talent.

Geez, two lines into this song tears streaming down my cheeks, sniffing, holding back full out crying. Love her introduction. If you’ve lost someone you love, and have a heart it’s going to break! Lost my brother and niece both murdered in Tucson in 2000. Feels like was yesterday, it’s 2020. She was 19, he was 55. Google: “The Story of the murder of Msgt Daniel Walker and Kara Walker.” 💔 Thank you for posting this poignant beauty.

I love the way you spoke that as to visualize it perfectly I was for a moment standing in a warm spring rain, droplets on my cheeks breathing in deeply as the notes of a mandolin faded in the distance. Simply beautiful simply put.

I remember a fellow artist (might have been Lee Ann Womak) talking about her music and saying "If you could hear an angel in Heaven sing - they would sound like Allison Krauss." So very true - such a pure voice.

Allison Krauss has the voice of an angel. That's just about the sweetest sounding, powerful, emotional and dynamic voice I have ever heard...along with my daughter, Cassidy Cronan, who most definitely has the voice of an angel-as well! Thank you, Allison, for such a great rendition!

To me, this is about the death of a relationship, while one is still in it. A marriage where two people hardly know each other anymore- going thru the motions & not meeting each other intimately anymore. The person can be sitting right next to you, & you're talking, but not about anything that really matters. If you've loved long enough to share a life w/ someone, at some point, you can relate to this song. Whether or not the feeling of removal remains, this moment in a marriage has deep impact.

I’m beginning to wonder just how many times this song can make me cry. The original version has absolutely no impact on me whatsoever. But this cover touches something very deep. Every part of this amazing ensemble is superlative in its own right. But talk about the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. No one compares to Union Station. My heart thanks you all.

I’ve made comments before on this particular song sung by Alison Krauss and Union Station and I keep coming back for more. The song is beautifully written and so sad, and it is sung by a lady with a voice beyond compare in this genre of music in my opinion. I think Alison’s voice is as close to perfect as one gets. Excellent performance.👍👍🇨🇦

@@liamconnolly9233 I started listening to her in '84 when she was "just" a fiddle prodigy, rarely singing lead. I can't even remember if the band she played with at Nature's Table had a name. She also did Brown Bag Lunches at Krannert Center (U of I) and sometimes I was the only one listening!
