Hey I am new to siege but it seems that they are knifing him first but his shield bash is always deflecting it? Or is it hitting them first or is something else going on because whenever I melee and they melee that doesn't happen can someone explain why his shield bashes always work?

It’s because the shield gets priority on the bash, which makes sense seeing as it’s a shield vs a tiny knife, and ballistic shields are extremely heavy. If you ask me though it should just do nothing to either player if both melee at the same time.
