There was a problem with micro here. Targeted units started going back, as to escape the onager shot. This disturb the units moving forward and ensured that the unit got hit. If units just kept going forward they would be better of. Also if micro is allowed, it should be allowed for both sides.

@@vitaobatera I don't play the game, just fallow streams. I had a suspicion of this. Thanks for the explanation but it clearly makes the situation worse here. When a unit in the middle of the group is targeted, it tries to go back and blocks other units, so all die. Not very helpful with area of damage attacks.

Unfortunately there's no reliable "fair" way to do these beyond removed human input, but as this is mostly just for entertainment it's not a massive deal. In real play a lot of problems can be overcome by the "attack ground" function to place a shot at a specific ground spot rather than target a unit. Which means you can predict where the unit will be when the rocks land and aim there rather than aiming at where the unit was when it was first targeted. Also it works both ways so the person controlling the units can opt to dodge by changing formation or stopping etc

Manually targeting the units to more a certain way. Not just patroling in but actually clicking the path your selft. If you spread out the melee units and encercle the SO s they will all get wrecked. But of course of you just walk into the shots you will get rocked to death
