I'm both a miniature painter and a nose ring fan. Don't know the guys names yet but beard and hat guy reminds me of the literal cage fighter Paul "Bear Jew" Craig. Podcast is lacking in septum representation though.

Very proud that you chose my nidvember suggestion, and I've never even painted a nid in my 35 ( of an on) in the hobby. Love you're podcast, keep up the good work guys 😃 P.s. i will play along all year.

It doesn't take seconds to read about the lore. I got down the rabbit hole and emerged hours later.

Those hobby hacks are legit, deffo trying out cling film and hole punch. A hobby question on varnishing approaches would be awesome next year. Somewhat disappointed that James didnt clarify what colour his base rims will be for the Mordians.

Dan Abnett is the master. I cannot imagine the loss immersion that would not exist had he not written so much of the lore for Games Workshop.

For me, best motivation is an event. Sign up for an event, low stakes, maybe 1000 points, and it forces you to lock in a force and paint it. Parts of it will be a slog, but at the end, you have a 1000 points you can put on the table that look like a cohesive army, and touch up after the event if you feel like it.

Zen and the Art of Archery by Eugene Herrigel and Becoming the Instrument by Kenny Werner are two books that aren't related to hobbyinbg/painting, but have vastly improved my ability to connect with my painting process. They've had a profound impact on my sessions and have helped me maximize my enjoyment of each session

Gents, please help a brother out. Halved/quartered schemes, any tips on how to progress these (and similar tricky paint jobs)? Would love to hear any tips you have for approaching this. My current stab is: lightest colour first (complete paint job) then overpaint in the darker colour and finish those areas.

Speaking of painting journals... I picked one up after listening to this podcast - but I also picked up one of those little photo printers that prints 2x3 sticky photos (I think they're for scrap-booking?) to put next to my journal entry. That way, I have a visual available of what I was writing about, which helps a lot for my learning.

Great chat again gents. Had this on while painting so didn't notice the nose ring until the end! Another jam packed tip Bonanza thankyou. My mate masks his minis with cling film as well and it's a clever idea. Just let the paint dry first before removing the cling film to reduce risk of getting paint on the mini. Also, I had the exact same reservations about magnifying headsets as James but my better half who worked in the optician industry for a decade advises that our eyes won't get weaker from using lenses much like we can't fix eyesight issues by making people wear weaker prescriptions. At worst you'll get eye ache from looking at things at different focal lengths while wearing them. As with anything, taking breaks is golden. Painting daily is my biggest revelation this year. Even 20 mins before bed chucking some ink on something. It keeps the motivation high as you're constantly making progress. Have a great Xmas Everyone.

Straining your eyes by focusing on minute details for hours will only ensure you need glasses AND the magnifier. Remember to use good lighting as well!

What has been your favourite non GW model/s that you have painted this year? I have been painting the models from "Descent" as I have loved playing the game and I know I have Bolt Action coming to me for Christmas so that might be fun to paint as its not Blood Angels (not that they are bad... obviously)

I too was hoping my “video of asking for your primarchs” count would get ludicrously high too, but thank you gentlemen for answering my question all the same. The weekly podcast has been something for me to look forward to since it started, so thank you guys a ton. Also, James definitely had the best answer even though it was expected, Sanguinius forever.
