Now, at last, I have the privilege to listen to this Masterpiece! How can the family Langgaard switch away like this? !! I'm a Norwegian composer never heard of Sigfried Langgaard before now, I've discovered his son Rued Langgaard as well. He is a genius!! Now let's celebrate our masters from ancient times, not very far, only some years. Enjoy guys!!

Überraschend gut hörbar - feine Grundstimmung, solide Dynamik und durchweg romantisch angehaucht ohne dick und drall aufgestäubte Biedermeierzuckerguß.

I have been busy with masters research into an unknown Danish composer, Emil Hartmann. I stumbled across his piano trio and couldn't beleieve the exceptional quality of it, with its incredible lyricism and magical folk like melodies. I was lucky to be able to perform it, and have set out to play as many unknowns as possible. What I am realizing is that the Nordic composers produced profound work, however, apart from the small, select few, never seemed to make it into the catraditional cannon. There is so much that exists, and so much that needs to be revived. We are lucky that there are a few pianists, such as this who have recorded some of these works!!

I have been researching Nordic composers for about a year now. Truly magnificent work, if you ever want to share research I'd love to get in contact.

Having just listened to Rued Langgaard's Symphony #1 I came here, not paying attention to the first name, only to read and find out this is by Rued's father. What a talented family! I've listened to and collected CDs of classical music for many many years and yet I've never heard of most of the composers listed here. In God's name why?

very fine work, far more interesting and dramatic in true romantic style, than several concertos by very well known composers

Can anyone explain to me why pieces like this are not played in piano concerti performances and/or international competitions? This is really an amazing piece.

Francesco Elia Marino - I am certainly no expert but my teacher who is a doctor of classical composition said to me when I asked a very similar question, that the repertoire is often largely popular works and that composers who were remembered and popular today were often remembered because they changed and broke conventions in some way that solidified them and their legacy - not to say that this isn’t a top notch concerto or that langaard didn’t brake some conventions of his own, but he is just not as popular regardless of the quality of his music. Interestingly I think I read somewhere that he was a student of Franz Liszt which might explain the exceptional quality of this concerto. Also the same kind of shallow way that popular music functions in regards to what is popular is certainly alive to some degree in modern classical circles, hence why this absolutely glorious and unique concerto would never be as successful in concert as a performance of tchaikovskys nutcracker. But this is just conjecture on my part.
@rationalthinker-20244 жыл бұрын
@@SmeagolTheBeagle yes, that is the case. Concert pianists rarely explore the "less known" concertos. it would be interesting if there would be a little bit more exploration of the less known concertos even if they are not technically for breaking conventions etc. For example, Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto 2 is definitely played rarely vs. the 1.....

@@SmeagolTheBeagle Your conjecture is very intelligent and informed... and aligns with what many musicians and conductors have asserted. The repertoire is so rich, but programmers are sadly too concerned with audiences wanting only familiar pieces. There needs to be much more balance... seduce them with a favourite, and introduce them to the neglected and forgotten masters!

It is delightful to find so many wonderful works to listen to. I have now heard so many that I don't remember what I have listened to. Thus, the like feature helps as does the comment section.
