Rant: And being ironically more used (in german, Dutch and probably old old english) to refer to a squire or a male servant of a "knight" the actual "knight" was/is reffered to as "Ridder/Ritter" which comes closest to "Rider" although... the actual word for "Rider" is Rijder or Reiter. So to be clear there is no (modern) English equivelant so it'd be most accurate to just go with "Ridder" as it's not supposed to be the same word as "Rider". Hence the funny diverence that despite "Knight" being translated to "Ridder/Ritter" the former does not have to have a horse whereas the latter always has one.

I love both father and daughter. I am always baffled when the other NPCs make fun of Sigmeyer when, somehow, he passed Sen's Fortress, got past the Anor Londo archers, gets just above the Bed of Chaos and passes Plight Town. He is a beast and her daughter is just as capable.

I always wondered how mamy times shes had to put him down. it seems like it finally sticks down in ash lake, but even then, that must have been a greuling battle of endurance, her with her one mortal life, an undying monster wearing her fathers face, and the knowledge that she has to keep going because if she slips up even once, she wont get a second chance.

He doesn’t get up because he’s out of humanity and has gone hollow for whatever reason, probably his depression on how his questing went. However if we can reverse hollowing with humanity consumables there’s a chance she can do it for her father if she knew the method

The game is pretty clear that once you've gone fully hollow, you can't come back. Humanities aren't really an extra lives kind of system, you don't stay dead when you run out of humanities, you just eventually reach a point where your body kind of becomes inert, like with Leroy, Lautrec, or Tarkus. Running out of humanity renders you hollow, but a hollow can still revive.

And because of the inherent loneliness and selfishness all who comes to Londor possess there hasn’t been a case of voluntarily offering humanity to a hollow to see the effects, but it’s not a stretch to say it should work considering it does for us. In fact the game also makes it clear the non inert hollows of the burg and elsewhere attack people specifically to get their humanity. It’s probably how the undead merchant and sewer merchant kept their sanity given their appearance.

​@@femthingevelyn The meta narrative, though, implies that going hollow means giving up (and perhaps then your body becomes a husk that attacks others, with no true thought anymore. Or stops moving). If you stop playing the game, you've gone hollow. And additionally, it could also imply giving up IRL. This gives the caution "don't you dare go hollow" extra weight. So it could have a second meaning, as many phrases or words in life do. And a consumable item can't always bring one back from one of those. (Though offering your humanity to others IRL certainly can make a difference, if done soon enough. ❤️‍🩹)

You too as a player came to Lordran as a pilgramage to lift the undead curse. In a fact whole game location was built by Gwyn and other "gods" as a proof of strenght for the right undead, who can make it through and link the flame again. Some sort of test ground, test castle

It could also mean the complete loss of sanity. Becoming a 'hollow' shell. I'd expct dying over and over again would be traumatizing for anyone. Perfect example: Re:Zero. The MC almost goes completely mental from it.

That’s what makes Crestfallen Warrior’s story kind of funny (in a tragic way). After sitting around for long and ACTUALLY hearing you ring both bells, (and Frampt apparently stinking up the place) he actually gets off his ass and decides to go adventure…. Only he makes it like 50 feet from where he started and instantly gives up and goes Hollow, down in New Londo .

Am I the only who always thought there was something.... sinister? about Sieglinde? When she tells you at firelink that she's finally tracked down her father and will be leaving soon, you can talk to her again and get a comment about "if my father hollows, I'll just have to kill him again" followed by her laughing. And then when you do find them both, she's standing over siegmeyer's dead body, having just killed him, claiming that he had gone hollow(when he was perfectly fine the last time we saw him) Its not out of the ordinary for NPC's to randomly hollow in this game, but her comment of "kill him AGAIN" means this isn't the first time she's killed him. I dunno something just mever felt right there to me

She was trapped in a crystal statue, so that is probably how she avoided the undead curse. that being said, she manages to make her way out of Seath, the scaleless lair, out of Anor Londo, and she gets to Fire Link shrine So she likely had to get past Sen's fortress. then makes her way to Blight Town, get to the great Hollow, and finally reaches her hollowed father at Ash Lake. all on one life, not knowing all the dangers that took the player many tries to get past and will likely will still die too.

She travelled from the Duke’s Archive all the way to the Ash Lake on one life. Without the Lordvessel, she would have had to go through Anor Londo, Sen’s fortress, the Undead Parish, the Depths, Blighttown and the Great Hollow, all in one piece! What was her main objective again? To find her father and tell him her mother’s last words. By the Lords, how lucky was Siegmeyer to have a daughter this awesome?!

I thought that it was well-established that Sieglinde was human. I have the impression that she admits this, or strongly implies it, but it's been a long time since I've played the game. I can't remember her dialogue well enough to cite anything. It might just be that she says that she traveled to Lordran specifically to track down her father. Her purpose doesn't have anything to do with being undead, like everyone else's seems to. And she's one of the few NPCs who doesn't go hollow.

All the hollows you fight are not truly hollow, they always come back when characters lose all purpose they go hollow and never come back. Undead soldiers still have a purpose, to protect their land.

I've always understood that to give up *IS* to Hollow. Rest assured, DS 1-3 players, your character without you is.. Hollow.
