Thank you for watching! We took the Vireak Buntham Airbus from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh because our preferred bus was booked out. Luckily we were able to secure our favourite seats on our favourite bus on the way back to Siem Reap. The hotel was fantastic and we will definitely stay there again. Bus 1: Vireak Buntham $16 (includes snack and lunch) Hotel: Ohana Phnom Penh Palace Hotel (between $30 and $40) Bus 2: Mey Hong Transport $10

Giant Ibis is cheap and cheerful. Monsoon Bassac Hotel is inexpensive and nice, in BKK1....OK Hotels are very good, and also inexpensive. I'm coming back to Cambodia 24th February...3 weeks from now...going to Siem Reap after a few days in Phnom Penh...might see you both there...

I recommend The Giant Ibis sleeper bus, its like being on a first class night flight, if your 6' or over, book two tickets for one double and you can stretch out if you sleep diagonally across the bed. But if you suffer from claustrophobia book a bed directly across from the bus front door as the aisle is very tight and dark. Staff are very good, honest, a ticket officer at the Siem Reap office unknowingly overy charged me $10 and he went all the way to the station to give it back. Thank you Clair and Jeremy, your work is really tremendous.

That's really lovely to hear. I honestly think most locals are not out to rip people off, and it's great that there are stories out there to support this - thanks for sharing! We've not taken the night bus as we prefer to travel during the day. Have a great day!

Hi Claire and Jeremy, I’ve taken Giant Ibis and it was pretty good but the $10US ride looks great. Also, I stayed at the Ohana 2 years ago and was a bit disappointed for a few reasons including the sparse breakfast but happy to see that it has vastly improved. Love the lower swimming pool. Overall great but I still like the Harmony across the street better for $10 more. Cheers

I´m pretty sure that i paid 13$ for that exact same ride on the Vireak Buntham VIP bus. Icould be mistaken about the price though. That was end of october last year. Maybe i forgot. But i would take that same company again anytime. I could have stayed on that bus a lot longer. It´s very comfortable and the service is great.

Ironically I took the VET bus the other direction before meeting you for lunch in Siem Reap. I have a habit of sitting towards the back because no one wants to be in the back. So I had both the recline and no one trying to recline in front of me. Even then, it was still just enough room and while i have long legs I'm shorter than Jeremy so probably still an issue but something to ponder if you have to use VET again.

Hey Sean, that's great to know. Jeremy had no space at all once the guy in front reclined, then we didn't want to recline because the people behind us were up against the toilet and it would have been awful for them. I think we will stick to Mey Hong in future, and will try to book a little further out to have the best seat choice. Hope you're going well.

Thank you Claire & Jeremy, more good informations as usual. We stayed at the Ohana in 2009 (formerly The Castle hotel at that time), it was 100% Khmer style at that time, with no bars on the opposite side and very much quieter to have a meal next door on the corner. Went back in March last year, apart from the noisy street now, the hotel has lost that khmer feeling with the new owners, but still good (stayed 3 nights). What is better, is the restaurant at the top, regarding food and the new overall setting. Would still go back, good value for price and location.

By side or application u will pay 3or 4 $ commission. Of course U can buy directly in the bus line office . Remember ask your host , receptionist to help you in booking , they will do it for you with pleasure and smile without tips .On the infoline they do not speak english often , usylly , at all 😅 In Vietnam they pick up u from the main streets , if hotel or homstay is on main street they drive to the hotel to pick u up and deliver to the bus station or place where buses are stopping . Even if you are in hotel on side street you have never more than 200 m to place of pick up .I am sure that this works the same way in Cambodia

We always used to use Giant Ibis between SR and PP. The worst part was the lunch stop restaurant. Called the Fly Trap. Over priced cold meals that 3 out of 3 times was not what we ordered. Inexperienced staff. All new hires being constantly trained. And hundreds of flies nonstop. Tried VET and was pleasantly surprised. More modern comfy seats, enroute lunch of your choice served on board saves 45 minutes travel time. And much cheaper than GI as well 👍

Definitely a solid hotel, particularly for that part of town. Not sure about river cruise from PP to SR, it might depend on the water levels of the Tonle Sap. You can take a boat from Siem Reap to Battambang in the wet season and I have heard that's a nice journey as well. Thanks for watching!

As with Tonle Sap river cruises your enjoyment will depend on water level. I did the SR to Batt long boat trip in Oct 2013. Magical! But I see others that have taken this journey when water levels r lowcand they have had to get out of the boat and help push it through small channels and then later pile into trucks with luggage to complete their journey. The river is seasonal so do your homework first before booking. You can either have a terrific trip or a complete flop. Anyway thanks for some great travel tips you guys, keep up the top work.

Hey Hey, great Vlog as always. Question, I am booking VET Air Bus from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap end for end of this month and wondering if seat 1B is ok... it basically on the toilet side where Jeremy had no leg room but 1B is directly being the driver.... The opposite side is already taken. You reckon the leg room behind the driver is ok? Would you say window or isle if so? EDIT: Also looking at Mey Hong and seat is available. I was concerned that there are no toilets on board but your vlog is saying Kampong Thom (the first stop) is half way so I guess if needed to go it's only 3 hours between which is no issues. I am guessing a tuk tuk or grab is only a 5 minute trip from street 136 PP to Mey Hong transport.
@ForRiel
@ForRiel 6 күн бұрын
I think that whole side is the same. I wouldn't book that bus unless I could get the side opposite the toilet. Mey Hong is great. They do a toilet stop in the first hour, then Kampong Thom, so it's not very long to wait. I'd allow a bit longer for the trip to Mey Hong HQ as traffic can be bad in PP.

The best weather is December / January but that's also the high season. I'd stay in a hotel if I was only here for two months - much easier than setting up an apartment for such a short time.

Clare , Jeremy, Question with out notice, With all your rental experience in Cambodia, have you ever had issues getting your Deposit back, Peter,
@ForRiel
@ForRiel 6 күн бұрын
In the instances where we've broken the lease, we have expected to lose the deposit and factored it into our decision. We left one apartment because of noise, and in that case, the landlord gave us half back, which was unexpected. When we have stayed the full duration of the lease, we have never had an issue with the deposit being returned. People talk about not getting their deposit back and I think in many cases it says more about the tenant (and how they left the property) than the landlord.

We were cycling from SR to PP last week but at Kampong Kdei we decided that that route is incredible boring to cycle, so we took the bus from KK. That was $10 per person and $5 per bike. Busstation KK was hilarious a board and 5 plastic chairs😂. Dropped us on our request at Sisowath quai. Don't know company name but wasn't very lux!

The one time we made the trip, we flew. On another issue, I see Jeremy is a big guy, not a criticism, it is what it is. Is there a place in siem reap to get clothes for big people? My wife and I are still planning on residing in SR, but don’t want to bring 5 suitcases of clothes with us. Cheers Kim
@ForRiel
@ForRiel 6 күн бұрын
Yes, Jeremy has long legs and struggles to find anywhere to put them. That's one of the many reasons we don't use minivans. We have very few clothes and just wear the same ones constantly. We came with a suitcase each and that was adequate for our needs. It's hard to find larger size clothing but there are a few stores in PP, and there's also Decathlon, but you have to be lucky there as the big sizes sell out really quickly.

All of the eggs are via the cooking station - didn't see any on the buffet during our stay. If you go early when it's quiet, they would do very quickly for you.

Firstly, let me say that as a non-resident in Cambodia, I'm mostly impressed with your commitment to humanitarian work. Unlike the millions of other youtubers that are more interested in fattening their own wallets through algorithm views. You both donate to charity with a genuine desire to help young Cambodians. As for the bus trip to Phnom Penh. Your bus served a hot meal compared to our VIP first class bus from Chiangmai to Hua Hin lol. Let's not talk about the toilet!

The hotel sounds good I assume it had an elevator you can’t always count on a hotel having an elevator in se Asia.
@ForRiel
@ForRiel 6 күн бұрын
It does have an elevator but it only goes as far as level 6 so you have to walk a flight of stairs to the restaurant and pool/bar area. I guess the restaurant was added after the place was built and the lift would be too expensive to change.

I’m in absolute shock today, went to Wat Bo rd to ask for blood tests, by the Maylasian trained old man. Prasat keo pharmacy. I asked if he could do set of blood tests, response was a very blunt no! Asked if he could help me, response was also a blunt no, followed by an uncomfortable stair. Worst interaction since being here. Left me stunned by his complete lack of empathy. Extremely disappointed, rude man

We go to the same person. Must have been a miscommunication of some kind. Maybe you were talking to the older man at the pharmacy ( he doesn't speak much English) and not the actual person who takes the blood. He speaks perfect English and is nothing but polite.

VET Going to Phnom Penh from Siem Reap it’d ok, but not on longer routes. I took to Sihanoukville and it was horrible. It was the luxury sleeper bus. It stopped a billion times picking up and dropping off packages. It took 5 hrs to reach Shanoukville from Phnom Penh. It didn’t take the new express way. The road was bad, it literally stoped 30 plus times picking up and dropping packages. Don’t do it

In vietnam the hotels that have buffet breakfast, people that dont stay in the hotel can also join the buffet for a set price ( around 6usd ). Is it the same there in Cambodia ? Or do you have to be a hotel guest to join the breakfast buffets ?

@@ForRiel Are there any hotels in Siem Riep that offer buffet breakfasts ? maybe a good topic to do a video on. Here in Vietnam its quite popular for Backpackers and Tourists to do the Breakfast buffets in the mornings. I'm sure it would make a fascinating topic to know if the same is available in Siem Riep, Perhaps Kampot as well, those seem to be the 2 destinations that are popular these days.
@ForRiel
@ForRiel 6 күн бұрын
Many of the bigger hotels have good buffet breakfasts, smaller ones usually have a set menu. Kampot hasn't many large hotels so it would be mainly off the menu. Due to price so you may have to pay extra, but there are some amazing cafes in Kampot so food with a view is never a problem.
